Personally, it blows my mind DirectX is incorporating any Ray Tracing at all. I actually wrote a C++ ray tracer back in 486DX days, and most scenes took over a week to render.
They do say time goes quicker as you get older. Nobody told me I'd be able to accomplish more in that time as well.

0) Generally speaking, the region of people's brain responsible for keeping track of the passing of time works more poorly as they age.
1) The obvious one. 1 day is a far larger portion of a 1 week-old baby's life than that of any of ours.

It defies conventional wisdom about semiconductors. It's baffling that it even works. It eludes physics models that try to explain it. I think it's that light striking these causes them to start doing ... something above my pay grade.

I think they are saying that a light input causes light of (a/any?) different wavelength as an output. So not much different than putting a colored screen in front of a light? (The only difference is that you can control the output wavelength?)
The writing doesn't speak well of the communication abilities of those 'academics.' Unless they really did mean that just placing their substance on a piece of glass, backlit or not, started the emission of light.
