We seem to be on the cusp of a revolution in storage. Various technologies have been demonstrated that have speed approaching that of current RAM chips but can hold on to the memory when the power shuts off—all without the long-term degradation that flash experiences. It is probably killing my old graduate advisor that other researchers are getting there before her.

Many users of Logitech's Harmony Hub smart home hub and remote were recently met with a nasty surprise. The device's latest firmware update, version 4.15.206, reportedly cuts off local access for Harmony Hubs. And this is why I have no interest in smart home devices. Unreliable, insecure, and short-lived.

It’s not often you can put nuclear weapons, terrorism and climate change on the same list as quantum computing, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, but the U.S. government believes all pose an “emerging threat” to its national security. I've been sayin' it. I've been sayin' it for ten years. Ain't I been sayin' it, Miguel? Yeah, I've been sayin' it.

Why doesn't the list include "Access to twitter" and "Lack of common sense"?
They're obviously a clear and present danger to world safety.

"AI poses an emerging threat to national security."
"How"
"Because state actors can develop AI."
"But, what will they do with it?"
"Develop it."

Grab, Southeast Asia’s top ride-hailing company, has hit a roadblock in its efforts to improve its mapping and routing service after running into trouble with OpenStreetMap, the world’s largest collaborative mapping community, through a series of blundering edits in Thailand. Every company has a story about how things went wrong. Here is Grab's.

Outsourcing.
I really don't think there's a need for any more words than that.
(Except that I wonder how many Grab drivers have been mentioned in the #MeToo campaign -- talk about advertising your intentions!)

Personal websites and email can replace most of what people like about Facebook—namely the urge to post about their lives online. OK who wants to make my Mom a personal website so I don't have to?

Given how much time I seem to spend on the front-end of web development, what language I use on the back-end has become almost irrelevant. It could be GW-BASIC for all I care and would notice. To make me a happy camper, all it needs to do is support Linq, Linq2SQL, Newtonsoft JSON, and handle web API calls, and that's about it.

Learn a language or technology that businesses actually use rather than one that some blog pundit si promoting (often to support their own business.)
If you are not already proficient in databases then I suggest that. If No-SQL then mongodb because it is the most popular. If SQL then Oracle, MS SQL Server or MySQL.
Other than that look to the following for languages that are actually in use.
