I know it all sounds stupid, but they are running rampant over the law and the rights of individuals, and setting an all-time low for business ethics.
There will be miss-steps, there will blockages caused by be corruption, but, sooner or later, the law will catch up.

The Mac and Windows version of Avast antivirus has been used to harvest user data, an investigation claims, with some sensitive info sold to third parties, including Google, Microsoft, and Intuit. "You must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not."

It makes sense, though.
"AVAST BEHIND!" means a big back-end.

Avast is one of the worse products I've ever tried. I am baffled as to how they are still in business.

According to Microsoft, with this new feature, users will be able to navigate their company’s confusing lingo. This is especially important, as Microsoft claims that 2-3% of search queries entered by employees are related to acronyms. FWIW

Many people think that malware only targets Windows and that Macs are safe, but a new report shows how a single Apple malware called Shlayer has attacked over 10% of all Apple computers monitored by an antivirus company. Because Macs never get malware

Script kiddies only target windows.
The guys who know where the stupid money is target macs.

A frequent API design problem is the inability to use a more specific return type when overriding a method "It means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less"

It might be slightly less work to type the code, but I don't see any performance figures.

As it generally should come down to a pointer cast, performance impact should be zero or extremely close.

Probably, but it would still be one of the first things I'd test and report.
"Does it make it better for us" should be the last thing to consider.

As covariance and contravariance have both made it into C++, with its zero-overhead abstraction policy, I'd be shocked if we saw it hitting performance, but I do take your point, measure first.

I've been made to look like an idiot before, after making assumptions about this kind if thing (and since it's one of the things I always push for, I mean made to look like a Big idiot!)
Performance tests can be a bit of a pain, but it's one of the things that really matter to the people who are indirectly paying our salaries.

In this blog post, I’ll talk about the C++ Lifetime Profile, explaining what it is, how it intends to reduce the problems typically caused by the memory-unsafe characteristics of C++, what the status of the current implementation of the Lifetime Profile is, and what the current limitations are. Convert it into Pascal code?
