With the CDNJS team’s permission we collect anonymized and aggregated data from CDNJS requests which we use to understand how people build on the Internet. But if you update - things break

So we need javascript auto-updaters, obviously.
I'm fine with that, as long as it doesn't take more than ten seconds to disable them.

Microsoft will give all Windows 7 users one more update, to fix the glitch caused by its final security updates. I'm sure all you Windows 7 folk feel much safer now

Makes you wonder wtf kind of architecture windows has, if a "security update" can screw with something like desktop wallpaper.

In my opinion, reading code is a process which can help you become a more proficient software developer. It has undoubtedly improved and influenced my software development skills. Maybe start with your own

Contrary to stupid statements that are popular with teachers (who, let us remember, are "them as can't", so anything they teach obviously didn't work for them), one does not learn to write, whether it be literature or code, by reading literature or code.
You can learn a bit by editing literature and analysing code (same thing, different horses), after you've made at least a good start on studying the syntax of the language, but, as with any other calling that requires a high level of creativity, you need to have that spark built in -- you can't learn to be creative; you can only learn how to fake it.

Coding is hardly being creative; repeating patterns with a degree of predictability. And yes, reading other people's code is educative, I learned many a thing from projects that contained inputs from different developers over years of writing and modifying.

Sure, but you analyse it, not read it.
My gripe with the article is that it makes you go through about 3,000 words of waffle to get its only point ("analyse code that other people have written"), without ever using the word "analyse" -- the most important word for the topic.
Maybe he was afraid of sounding too technical (in an article for developers!), or maybe he just doesn't have a clue what he's talking about, so he just rambled, then added more. And more. And more. (The symptoms are quite recognisable.)

Steven Sinofsky was at Microsoft for more than 20 years but will always be remembered for the failed operating system, Windows 8, Microsoft’s response to the iPad. For those who wondered why they suddenly tried to shove tablet UI everywhere
...without attempting to understand why the iPad works for people (while few other tablets seem to)

Steven's reputation is safe with me. I didn't know who he was before just now, and I won't him remember later today.

So that's what we have to blame for the atrocity known as the W10 GUI.
I can not understand why they don't get the point that if people want to use a tablet or phone that's what they will use and if they use a desktop or laptop PC it's because they DON'T want to use a laptop or phone. Those do not need to all look or be the same.

I wonder how long will take for this to get through the 47 nodes of multiple levels of managers, easily distracted R&D boffins, interdepartmental meetings, etc, before it gets implemented in computer hardware.

Fire extinguishers make great portable rocket packs. And leave us not forget: If you make a bullet-sized hole in a spaceship's porthole, incredibly strong and nearly indestructible alien monsters can be sucked out through it by the one atmosphere of negative pressure.

Google App Maker allowed IT developers and enthusiasts to build apps to improve business workflows with G Suite’s low-code development environment. Dead before anyone knew it was alive
I mean: I consider myself "fairly connected" to tech news, but I cannot remember ever hearing about this one. Maybe G's problem is that they just don't let enough people know about things (and assume their not-Ads will inform them)?

Needless to say, it has and will continue to make a huge difference to my lifestyle.
