Corporations love to pretend that 'anonymization' of the data they collect protects consumers. Studies keep showing that’s not really true. "Say my name"

Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing;
'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands;
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed.
I've got nothing to hide; the bank account I use on-line only has money in it when I have to pay for something from it; and I don't give a flying f*** about cr@p like reputation and image.
So there's not much that these data-slurping wankers can do to hurt me, and I've got no real reason to hide behind a bushel.
But that's not the point.
It's the violation.
I've never been burglarised, but I know that it traumatises people, knowing that some stranger has been in their house, going through all their private, personal memories, just to cold-heartedly steal whatever they can sell.
Knowing that uncaring, contemptuous eyes have stared at your precious mementos is an absolute violation. A little piece of your heart is broken, each time. It can only hurt people, and can do no good.
And that is exactly what the data slurpers do. If people were aware of everything they slurp, everything they look at, everything they touch, they would light torches and burn the b*st*rds down.
"Do no evil", my arse.
The very root of everything google does is evil; it's evil all the way town to its rotten, filthy, disgusting core.

Well, this article is about datasets from breaches made by hackers. Of course, if companies weren't collecting the info then there would be nothing to "breach".
I find this quote at the end of the article incredibly naive, as if a law would mean anything:
Quote: Until then, we’re left relying on the promises of corporations who’ve repeatedly proven their privacy promises aren’t worth all that much.

There was a time during the lawless, wild-west days of the internet, when it was just full of Flash games. "It's a g-g-gas"
See above notice about all the security issues with Flash, but including anyway.

I thought to myself "What's the point of keeping them off-line?", but then I read the article, and realised that the person writing it barely even knows what a computer is, let alone what difficult terms like on-line and off-line mean.

A huge developer survey reveals trends in developer education, job prospects, skills acquisition, and salaries. If all the other kids jumped off a bridge and learned Python, would you do it too?
Or would you just try to get their stuff?

Nope, I prefer to watch them flail as they try to learn how to swim in the new waters. It's always interested to see what shore they end up on.

Flaw affecting selected sudo versions is easy for unprivileged users to exploit. It's a good thing nothing bad would happen with this

Hmmm,
Linux is swiss cheese. Back when I had access to Vupen via a shared account the commercial product exploits had an expiration date internally called EOL (End of Life) when disclosure occured. Interestingly the Linux exploits appeared to be perpetual until public disclusure. Some of them were available for over 3+ years. I always assumed it was because of some legal issues. Nobody owns Linux so there is nobody to answer to.

Hackers are exploiting many of the same security vulnerabilities as last year and they all impact Microsoft Windows products - but a bug in Adobe Flash was the most exploited in 2019. There's something that seems similar about these, but I can't place it

Yes, there are a few commonalities there. One error too - WinRAR is not a Microsoft product, AFAIK. Did they buy them too?

WinRAR is immensely useful, well built, robust, and intuitive, and it has an extremely small footprint.
Are you seriously asking if ms has anything to do with it?

No, I only asked if they had bought WinRAR. It still works great so it is obvious they haven't had anything to do with it so far.
