There ain't now way to hide your spyin' eyes
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Uber today made available in open source Piranha, a tool that automatically deletes stale and unused code from app codebases. Use it or lose it
Am I the only one that feels this is a disaster creator?

Ok... (first see my message in the thread just below this)
Ok... now I understand why they are bringing a new version each 3 months... if nobody uses something, it will get deleted by this piranha tool.

I'd be happy to apply some Piranha solution to every one of their drivers I've ever had to share the road with, I think. I've never spoken to one.

We released a preview version of Visual Studio 16.6 – Visual Studio 2019 version 16.6 Preview 1 and with it a new version of .NET Core Windows Forms designer. Soon you'll be able to code like you did in 2002

When are they going to understand that bringing a new version each 3 months is not the proper way of doing things?

NASA’s InSight lander, which is currently on the surface of Mars, has faced some unexpected problems during its mission to explore and study the planet. Percussive maintenance is often the solution
Except for coworkers - I've learned it's not optimal then.

Known mostly for its algorithms that beat human players at Go, DOTA, and other games, DeepMind has nevertheless been working directly on solutions for drug discovery. As long as the two don't go in cahoots with one another

I can't help but still being a bit sceptic... I don't want to end having a remedy that is even worse than the illnes.

First we teach it strategy, then we teach it how to win us at war games, now what / how can kill us from the inside... Am I the only one seeing problems coming?
I can't help but remembering the quote: "What is today written as science fiction, might be tomorrow remembered as a reportage" and thinking on films like Terminator, Matrix...

It'd be bad if one of those companies found a cure first, and copyrighted it. Then again, that might be the cure to capitalism.

Quote: One of the peculiarities of the patent system is that you don't have to actually prove your technology works to get a patent on it. That explains why Theranos—which was famously unable to get its technology working—managed to get a number of patents anyway. These included Patent #8,283,155: "Point-of-care fluidic systems and uses thereof."
This patent describes a generic architecture for a machine that automates testing for the presence of substances in bodily fluids. Am I alone in feeling my blood boil over sh1t like this?

No... you are not alone.
But sadly we can't do anything against it (at least anything that wouldn't bring us problems, if we get caught)

Quote: In the system described by the patent, an operator inserts a "test device" (which contains both the bodily fluid to be tested and the reactants required to perform the test) into a "reader device." The reader device then triggers the necessary chemical reactions to perform the test and reports the results. Theranos' patent isn't limited to any specific... That covers most clinical tests.
That's proof that the patent offices grant patents for just every sh1t.

Patents should be replaced by copyright. One problem is that patents don't allow for independent discovery. Never mind the trivial things for which software patents have been granted. Do you know that there's a patent on saving, in a buffer, the portion of a display that will be overlaid by another window, so that it can quickly be restored when the overlay is removed? Effing ridiculous.
