Sigh. The idea that a human being is not just a machine but a unique individual with unique needs, and that medical conditions are almost always a combination of many factors, including dietary, environmental and psychological (to name only 3) -- creating healthcare algorithms is the antithesis of this. I can't begin to describe the disgust I feel when I read about things like "healthcare algorithms."

Unreal Engine 5 has entered the early access stage, allowing developers to get their hands on the latest technologies Epic Games has to offer in their next-gen package before a full release happens next year. I haven't a clue how to use it, but I certainly appreciate those that do

Source generators are a good way to reduce the amount of repetitive code that needs to be written. Write code to write code to save you from writing code
Yeah, it seems I use something like that every time source generators are involved. I'll try better. Next time.

Quote: Source generators are a good way to reduce the amount of repetitive code that needs to be written.
I thought that was supposed to be handled by DRY, good architecture and good coding practices.
When I look at the code that the Swagger front-end code generator creates for back-end API calls, I want to run away screaming.

Life as depicted in George Orwell’s 1984 “could come to pass in 2024” if lawmakers don’t protect the public against artificial intelligence, Microsoft’s president has warned. I wouldn't think they'd broadcast their corporate plans that far in advance

Indeed. This is almost like he's saying that "lawmakers need to protect the public against what we're going to find a way to do no matter what"!
|
|
|
|

One could also make the argument that we need laws to protect AI from the ignorant, violent, biased, opinionated, ungrounded, and just plain stupid public.
I certainly wouldn't want "the public" to be the training set for AI!

I wonder how often we'll hear discouraging words?
"the debugger doesn't tell me anything because this code compiles just fine" - random QA comment
"Facebook is where you tell lies to your friends. Twitter is where you tell the truth to strangers." - chriselst

Kent,
I believe that your motherboard needs to be repaired. It looks like a simple fix, I would recommend using the vise-grips to get a hold on it.

Based on the fact that they're claiming location data can be anonymized I assume everything else in the study is the result of delusional morons as well and stopped reading.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

This collection highlights some of the many projects and initiatives across Microsoft Research that aim to advance the field of software development: creating new programming languages, building tools and systems for better software creation, testing, operation and documentation, and advancing program synthesis to automate and streamline programming tasks. If it's broke, write a new language.
It's like modern medicine. Don't fix the underlying problem (the skills of the people writing the software), fix the language. In some ways, that might ultimately work -- make the algorithms that write the programs so smart that a monkey could write the program. Oh wait, isn't that called "no-code"?

If you’re not yet familiar with TypeScript, it’s a language that builds on JavaScript by adding syntax for static types. Now with ... uh, stuff. Read the changelog

A pair of researchers, one from the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland the other the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Norway has found that it is possible to track mood trends in large groups of people by studying their Twitter posts. Outrage goes up, outrage goes down. Can't explain that.
