Spacecraft controllers have begun powering up the four cutting-edge instruments on NASA's James Webb Space Telescope as they prepare for the observatory's first glimpses of a target star. "This is your big debut. It's like a dream come true. So won't you smile for the camera"

The International Space Station (ISS) is now in its third decade of expanding the bounds of scientific knowledge, and scientists the world over have high hopes for what it can still accomplish. Were they petting a fluffy cat while revealing their nefarious plans?
Maybe this is why Tom Cruise is going into space!

There's a 2m-wide port on the ISS which must be hit by a torpedo while flying at maximum speed down a channel in the surface?

So, the ISS isn't international, but property of NASA?
I'm pretty sure they can destroy more.

It's not just that, the engine that would be used to deorbit it in the baseline case is in the Russian segment and relies on prop transferred by Progress capsules.

The OpenSSF’s new Alpha-Omega Project comprises not one but two separate initiatives. They are called Alpha and Omega, respectively, and each seeks to improve the cybersecurity of the open-source software landscape in different ways. Send in the eyes (they're already here)

Plenty of apps that you install on your computer have a setting that tells them to launch when you initially log in to save you the trouble of launching your most commonly used apps yourself. Leaving this setting on can also allow apps to check for updates or launch more quickly when you start them for the first time. The difference for some of the preinstalled Microsoft apps in Windows 10 and 11 is that they use some of these resources by default, whether you actually use the apps or not.
So I'm guessing the Teams and Edge icons in W11 are mauve.

Over the next few years, I expect to see increased adoption of WebAssembly across the tech sphere, from containerization to plugin systems to serverless computing platforms. Is it going to do a trick?

When you sign into an unmodified Windows 11 installation, you may notice the side-by-side icons for the Chat app (basically an entry point for the consumer version of Teams — the one with the white T icon) and Widgets. Overhead in Windows? Sayitaintso!

The WinForms OOP Designer has a new and easier approach for hooking up data sources, focusing on Object Data Sources to support .NET based object relational mapper technologies (like the latest version of Entity Framework Core – EF Core for short) which the WinForms team recommends as a successor for Typed DataSets. In case you want to put yourself into a bind

"... a successor for typed data sets" is a misnomer. It still uses typed data sets.

You mean not showing progress on loading, just a non responsive UI? Is that a thing?

Most Windows 10 devices that do not meet the minimum system requirements will stay on that version of Windows, but what happens when Windows 10 runs out of support in 2025? I'm going to guess, "nothing"?
I'm sure there are more than a few XP and Vista machines still running (more-or-less) happily.
