You could always just set the registry key and carry on getting updates for your legacy software. Methinks it's Microsoft that can't win

It appears many programmers work in environments where they are treated like idiot savants; brilliant children capable only of coding. Make sure the wake-up call includes their extra-foam, two-pump, skinny vanilla cap

You have no idea how bad I want to send this to my managers. Bu if I did, I'm sure the beat down would be hard, fast, and continuous.
This article describes my managers almost perfectly. And not in the good way. We've slowly been heading toward isolation from users and simply being told what, when, and how to do projects for years. This last year we've been excluded from meetings with users regarding project requests as if the new 'project manager' is an expert on all the various systems we maintain.
I suspect the next step will be a complete disconnect from the users and the removal of analyst from our job titles and duties. They can then truly refer to us a "coders".

Microsoft has released an updated guide on driver security. This new guide offers advice that developers could use to ensure Windows drivers are secured against basic attacks and preventable flaws. Ooooooh. They're *supposed to be* secure? Good thing they updated that.

we have driverless cars, when are the driverless computers coming out. I can't believe I had to type this out myself. There should be a robot at my desk doing this for me by now.

Exclusive: Intel’s new Vaunt smart glasses actually look good - The Verge[^]
verge: When you’re wearing them, you see a stream of information on what looks like a screen — but it’s actually being projected onto your retina.
verge: On the right stem of the glasses sits a suite of electronics designed to power a very low-powered laser (technically a VCSEL). That laser shines a red, monochrome image somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 x 150 pixels onto a holographic reflector on the glasses’ right lens. The image is then reflected into the back of your eyeball, directly onto the retina.

For several years, one of the greatest fears of the world's legacy companies has been disruption by an Uber or Airbnb — an adroit new startup with a cheap, market-shattering idea. But a surprising new reality led by the confluence of big data and artificial intelligence has softened their anxiety, and made them think they — and not startups — are the new, new thing, according to a new study. And by "roar back", they mean "people will realize that framework of the week doesn't help"
Yeah, a study by IBM and Oxford found that old technologies are best. Next up, a study by Hansom and The Daily News find that "carriages are about to make a big comeback"

Experts have warned that despite the “feverish” trend towards adopting the adjustable desks, there is little solid evidence to support their use, as well as concerns they may do more harm than good. Back to my lie-down "desk" I go
I can testify to both of these being true. At least, that's my excuse for the second one.

I've worked with people who have had desks that can be used in a sitting or standing position; the desk has controls to raise or lower as needed. I suppose, for those that have 'standing only' desks, they could request chair with extreme extension to allow them to 'sit' at an elevated level. No harm there, not is there...
