What's surprising to me is that so many people are surprised.
«... thank the gods that they have made you superior to those events which they have not placed within your own control, rendered you accountable for that only which is within you own control For what, then, have they made you responsible? For that which is alone in your own power—a right use of things as they appear.» Discourses of Epictetus Book I:12

Something I have been saying for years. I have never, once, signed up for any social networking site, nor Twitter, nor any chat service.
Of course, I am an old fossil,

Attackers and malware can easily move laterally through an organization, thanks to inadequate access controls on file systems and a proliferation of inactive but enabled users. You should be able to identify them as they're covered in sheets

They're not inactive "ghost" users. They're ringers on the company softball team. When accused of cheating we can prove they're in our system. Yeah, that's Mike Trout from accounting, over there is Clayton Kershaw from the mail room, and Aaron Judge is our receptionist.

I totally despise the flat appearance of windows 10. It is one of the worst GUI things they have ever adopted in my opinion.

I don't like the appearance of Windows 10 either. Windows 7 was freaking beautiful.
I get the idea of trying to make apps that work the same on different devices, but apps cannot look the same on different devices.
On a computer screen, we want it to look good. You can do really fancy stuff. You can make UI's look fabulous and do pretty much all you want.
But phones have limited screen space, so we throw all that overboard. The app just has to fit on the screen.
I always say: my PC is not a phone. Stop trying to turn it into one.

Developments in artificial intelligence may help us to predict the probability of life on other planets. The study uses artificial neural networks (ANNs) to classify planets into five types, estimating a probability of life in each case, which could be used in future interstellar exploration missions. A story published here last week warned readers about a vast network of potentially malicious Web sites ending in “.cm” that mimic some of the world’s most popular Internet destinations (e.g. espn[dot]cm, aol[dot]cm and itunes[dot].cm) in a bid to bombard visitors with fake security alerts that can lock up one’s computer. If that piece lacked one key detail it was insight into just how many people were mistyping .com and ending up at one of these so-called “typosquatting” domains. You mean that wasn't the Microsoft.com website I just logged into?

IBM has revealed Microclimate, a development environment designed to simplify the process of app development in cloud environments. It aims to provide a flexible, end-to-end framework for all stages of the app development process. {insert lazy climate-change joke here}

On a long enough timeline, technical debt creates a lot of misery in the office. Team members tend toward finger pointing and infighting, and a sense of embarrassment pervades. Nobody likes explaining over and over again to stakeholders that seemingly simple changes are actually really hard. Technical Lottery Tickets? Technical Loan Sharks?

So, I never understood this, Google and John split ways, for a number of reasons I'm sure, and another company picks him up, to their advantage. Why didn't Google just keep this guy no matter what, if he is that valuable? Pride, bitter feelings? Google's loss, I'm sure.
