It allowed Microsoft the opportunity the opportunity to throw away the cruft that had built up in the full framework (as well as provide something that can run on platforms other than Windows). With Core, there are effectively two big "advances".
1. Your application only gets the features it needs so, if you have something that uses one feature in what was a monolithic .NET assembly, you just bring in that feature and not the whole assembly. Of course, this does lead to the situation where you end up with a lot of assemblies being loaded.
2. Your application gets the platform specific version of features. As long as there's an appropriate assembly that can be linked to, you'll get the platform appropriate version of the feature; file writes being an example.

New ion-based quantum computer debuts by computing the ground state of water. So, mostly useless, rather than just completely?
Sorry for the quantum fans, I think I'm skeptical

How much ya wanna bet that this only came about because of Sheldon's string-theory fixation?

I think they're pushing this because they're positive that they can charge for it.

At the moment, mostly but not completely. They have managed to improve some classical machine learning algorithms just from quantum computing research. So there have been some benefits even in the absence of viable hardware.

New Windows 10 builds are using Xbox's infrastructure for Windows games. I never understood why they didn't all this time

I don't think they'll actually call it quits. They'll just open up more market possibilities for the x-box games.

With this, Flutter now features support for Android App Bundles, Google’s latest technology for packaging Android apps more efficiently and for creating instant apps, too. In addition, the framework lays the groundwork for helping developers accept in-app payments and adds a number of new web-based tools, too. My heart is a-flutter

We’ve seen companies big and small build everything from AI-driven developer tools to AI-powered developer environments. But what if instead of having AI merely help developers write code, it did all the heavy lifting? So the AI posts requests for codez for you?

Or we could just use libraries and frameworks.
Nah. That wouldn't work. I hate being passe'.

Docker images almost always bring known vulnerabilities alongside their great value But the vulnerabilities are contained, right?
"Snyk recently released its container vulnerability management solution to empower developers to fully own the security of their dockerized applications."

Yes, because backing "freedom fighters" with materiel and weaponry in other countries has always worked out so well in the past, hasn't it.
