Every other engineering discipline has built modern computational tools: for computer aided design, simulation and testing, and for manufacturing. But programming hasn’t progressed significantly since the 1970s. Maybe if we added fins and a racing stripe it might look new?
Or maybe all the failed visual languages should tell the author something?

Ah, another rant from the "it's old it must be bad" camp. Or is it the "change for the sake of change" camp? Or the "I suck at what I do so I'll demand something different" camp?

Yes, they should tell the author something.

A number of groups around the world have since demonstrated two-qubit gates in silicon—but until this landmark paper today, the true accuracy of such a two-qubit gate was unknown. Accuracy ... is good?

Even the most advanced chatbots can’t hold a decent conversation, but AI systems are definitely getting better at generating the written word. A new web app provides ample proof, letting anyone enter a text prompt to which AI software will automatically respond. "You are probably looking for something that is easy to understand, yet gives you valuable insights into what is out there."
Which is (part of) what it responded when I asked, "What should I write as a blurb?"

There are already enough humans who talk utter bollocks all the time, for free.
Why do we need to pay for a machine to do it?
It's about time we turned the tables and started putting them out of work!

I tried it out with this phrase:
Quote: where should I learn css?
And it replied with this nonsense...
Quote: As a beginner, the best css files are those you can reference often and those contain some of your favorite typography, shapes and features. If using a design as a jumping-off point for a tutorial or something along those lines, we encourage you to use the sample theme created by Wacom to try out before purchasing a custom edition.
I think we missed something. Does the CSS work as well without the font?
While the theme is designed for modern devices, there is definitely room for a modern website. It is likely that at this point, the font itself is out of date, but there are ways to adapt it in any fashion you need.

That's actually worse that an "all mouth and trousers" idiot. The worse-than-an-idiot AI said: don't forget to consider sharing your thoughts on our Facebook fan page Even there, it's a wildly inaccurate statement.
Until there are actual fans, it's just "a page" -- and unless it's actually made by fans, it's just "our page".
Computers are dumb animals, we know that, but all too many AI "initiatives" are making them into morons.

I asked it the question :
What is C#?
It replied...

Yes, because I often surf the web without a computer and I write C# without one too.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday gave the go-ahead for a lawsuit by consumers accusing Apple Inc of monopolizing the market for iPhone software applications and forcing them to overpay, rejecting the company’s bid to escape claims that its practices violate federal antitrust law. A store that everyone* has to sell from, and everyone* has to buy from might be a monopoly?

If they are not thoroughly vetting apps, if they are actively removing products which offend Apple's sensibilities, if they make "side-loading" or other app sources difficult or impossible, then yeah, have fun in court.

On the other hand, if a user should happen to download an app from somewhere else and then have a virus or other malware on their phone from that download; they would hold Apple liable for not protecting them in the first place.

The entire issue sounds like dirty politics against Apple; consumers don't file anti-trust lawsuits to make 99-cent apps cheaper.
I'm wondering what the lawsuit's real purpose is.

It's a good question. Normally I'd point at "the usual suspects" (aka competitors), but here that would mean Google, and they also want to keep everyone at their store.
I wonder if it's some of the bigger app writers, who want to get out from under Apple's 30%?

Google actually make it quite easy to sideload apps, which means their practices are quite different to Apple. Further, other vendors can use AOSP and create custom Android distributions, with their own app stores. The entire model is freer, with all the benefits and risks that entails.
