Almost all the scare stories come down to that, these days.

The majority of source code has a short lifespan (i.e., a few years), and is only ever modified by one person (i.e., 60%). So you're saying we need Tinder for Code?
But you'll still have to write it so you can understand it in six months

Apple has been fined by the French government for its 2017 patch that could slow down iPhone 6, iPhone 7 and iPhone SE units that had a depleted battery, and for not informing users that it was doing so. Because nothing hurts like a fine equivalent to 7 hours of revenue

I'm sorry but I find this whole thing so pathetic.
Apple, like everyone else, builds on their systems to provide new features that their consumers demand. Or dread. Either way, the phones are asked to do more and more and as they get older the batteries are less and less capable. So Apple introduce a pretty clever system that progressively slows framerate, dims the screen a little, lowers the volume by a big 3dB - all in the name of eking out a little more from the phone instead of having the phones fall over, all four paws in the air, dead.
Their crime isn't slowing down a phone. The crime is "not telling everyone they are trying to quietly, without fuss, without interrupting you, keep you on Facebook or Instagram that few moments longer without bothering to tell you
Which, frankly, is what a good OS does: it handles stuff - the good, the bad, the annoying - in a way you don't notice, and without making a fuss about it.
This is a PR fail by Apple (one of many recently, unfortunately), not a crime that warrants a massive and arbitrary fine.
cheers

Even someone who's not an apple fan (c'est moi) finds it very hard to disagree with that.
They made a choice between making the phones become a teensy bit less useful and letting the things become pretty much unusable.

It appears Google may be working on yet another operating system, “Pigweed,” according to a new US trademark application. So they're cloning the MacOS?

"Pigweed"?
Hmm...
No, I'm stumped. Anyone got any ideas?
It looks like they're using a typical political tactic (if you give people something obvious to attack, they won't attack where you're weak), so don't go thinking they were stupid for using that name -- just look for what they're trying to prevent you from seeing.

Shame it wouldn't work outside the CP Lounge. We need to educate the world about what "elephanting" means.
... And about the small fact that pigweed is what you feed to your food animals, to fatten them up for slaughter.

No need to change the original meaning.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Perhaps this is a sign of how they are going to take over the world.
Some varieties of Pigweed are resistant to glyphosate (weedkiller-RoundUp) and like exert dominance over the plants that are supposed to be there.
Sounds like some sort of germ warfare

Microsoft originally implemented the “Suggested” section on the Windows 10 Start Menu as a way to advertise its official apps; but in the latest listing, Microsoft has gone beyond self-promotion. If at first you're declared a monopoly, try, try again

When people are becoming more and more unhappy, disappointed, and disaffected by your flagship programs, you've got to try everything you can to get them to come back -- except, of course, restoring the standards of quality that attracted people to them in the first place.

I suppose the bug came with the last "update".
I think they forgot to write "if you want to solve it, upgrae to windows 10" in the pop up.

Obviously caused by the DT wallpaper fix.
The dependencies must be:
Security libs <-- Desktop wallpaper <-- Off switch
I imagine that there are things like "unexpected sound" and "the K key" in the dependency tree too, somewhere.

It's not a bug, it's a cry for mercy!

I don't understand this at all.
Why on Earth would they want a review of Boeing’s software verification processes?
What a ridiculous waste of time, effort, and money.
Close the department, sack the lot of 'em, and start from scratch.
