Currently I am developing a simple Dialog Based MFC application. The application connects to a server using the RakNet networking library. I am stuck because the networking library requires that each frame the application needs to check if a new packet has been recieved from the server. Does anyone know a way to call a function everyframe? I know that threads are a posibility, but I was hoping for something simpler.

Wow - is ALL that text your homework, or did you include some code you'd written ? We don't do homework here, and there's just too much there for anyone to wade through to work out if you've actually tried anything yourself, or if you're just looking for a free ride.
From what I read, it looks like you've got more than enough to go on with there.

Nice... And what's the question ???
Honnestly, do you really think that we will read all of this ?? Do you really think that people here have nothing to do of their days? If you have clear questions, do ask but do not post your homework here, people won't do that for you.
And also, format your message a little bit cleaner instead of making a copy/paste of your homework.

Hi there,
probably really easy this.
I have a combobox which works fine. I can select the line I want from the pull down menu, and when I use
comm_port = m_DropList.GetCurSel();
in my code, I get back the correct index. HOWEVER, I also want to be able to type in the selection (0 to 255) in the combobox, and have it recognise my selection in code, yet if I edit the box, the above line always returns -1. What else do I need to do to get the code to pick up that the selection has changed and to treat it as a valid selection. My combobox is configured as type Dropdown, so I assumed this would work quite straight forwardly.
Cheers

I assume you added numbers 0 through 255 via AddString() (or InsertString() ). Yes? If that is the case, use GetWindowText() to get the text displayed in the combobox.

Anyone know what Win32 technology will allow me to create a global memory structure (a couple of meg or so) and have it stay in memory after the creating application has ended? There is no reason for the structure to cross reboots.
I don’t want to use the persistent technologies like the registry or the hard drive. In the old 16 bit days, I would just GlobalAlloc a couple of Meg and write the handle to the atom table and use it when I need to or something like that. But today…when an application exits all resources it allocated are released (unless another application opened the same resource), which is pretty cool, but not what I’m looking for.
Here’s what I’ve tried and the problems with them:
1) GlobalAlloc – deleted on program exit
2) Volatile registry – best practices says not really good for more than 2k of data
3) Memory file via CreateFileMapping – deleted on program exit
4) Global Atoms – not big enough, only 16k entries and each entry is limited to 256 bytes
My limitations are that I have to rely on whatever is already on the machine and can't install anything...in other words...static linking and straight Win32.
Any ideas?

So create a small process that doesn't exit to hold onto it.

Thanks Shog.
That doesn't really work for me either since I can't have an installation program. All I can
use is a single .exe with no installation.

Actually you are getting a linker error, not a runtime error.
xeru_slash wrote:

You need to link with the library that contains the code for _yahoo_close() .

My bad for making that assumption. At a minimum, you'll need to link with the .obj file that has that function in it.

Why don't you start the planning yourself and ask us a more precise question?

My application must add and remove some pages from a CPropertySheet in the middle of the "modal loop" (for instance, when the user clicks a button...)
The problem is the CPropertySheet does not resize to fit the newly added pages except when these are added before the call to DoModal()...
Can anybody figure a way to resize the CPropertySheet suitably?
tks
