Hey Guys,
I’m working on a project for my diploma thesis:
A (kind of) web-spider browses the news of (let’s say for instance) CNN or MSNBC. The main goals are:
Sending Keywords to look for articles
Finding news: Since CNN stores their news in a database and not in browserable HTML files it’s necessary to send key-words to the CNN search engine. (E.g. tsunami, hurricane).
Receiving a Webpage, which contains links to all articles that deal with this topic. (E.g. click on the link, to see how the page looks like. http://search.cnn.com/pages/search.jsp?query=tsunami)
Using a spider to receive every single article that deal with the topic
Extracting the news article from the web pages (removing web site elements like navigation, adds,...)
Removing HTML tags – the result after this should be a plain text that just contains the news.
Browsing every single article for certain words to determine what kind of news it is (weather, technology,...)
I’m not sure which technologies to use. Personally I’m familiar with C#. I thought about using an intelligent agent framework, but those are all in JAVA or C++. Anyway, I’m pretty sure there must be something useful for .NET, I don’t want to create a web-spider or an HTML-tag-removal from the very first line. My other concern is: How in general should I design this tool?
Thank’s for help
Stefan

Before you start creating spider, do have a look on the sites you are going to spider and find out, if they support spiders. They might deny access to spiders and might allow you to get those contents by some other means.
See if you can use RSS feed.

Hi,
I sure this is a bit of a newbee question/problem but I am currently trying to build a table dynamically. The table is on an inherited page and I am looping through a dataset building the cells into a tablerow then adding this row to the table. I am using c# and setting the table row to null after each loop but its not getting very far.
I am creating the row like this - where the cells (f1-f6 are setup with height an width and some have buttons and images)
hr.Cells.Add(f1);
hr.Cells.Add(f2);
hr.Cells.Add(f3);
hr.Cells.Add(f4);
hr.Cells.Add(f5);
hr.Cells.Add(f6);
I am getting an error on this line -
forumtable.Rows.Add(hr);
Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Source Error:
Line 201: hr.Cells.Add(f6);
Line 202:
Line 203: forumtable.Rows.Add(hr);
Line 204:
Line 205: hr = null;
Any help would be most appreciated

Does the id forumtable exist in the page? Have you put runat="server" on the element?

The table forumtable is on a seperate page that the current page inherits and it is set to runat=server, also the form that contains the table is set to runat=server.
If you have any other suggestions I would be most grateful,
Thanks in advance

I think that you have to declare the variable in the class which has the page that contains the element, e.g. in the class that you inherit.

Hi,
Can anyone suggest some nice place to learn W3C and interview question on W3C.
Thanks.

I must admit that I have no idea what you mean
W3C stands for the World Wide Web Consortium...What do you wish to learn about that group, and which interview questions would pop up about W3C?

You can't. The ASP code is run on the server. There is no graphical interface, so there are no fonts.
If you have html code before and after the asp script tag, you can't do anything with it. On the server, the html code is just treated as text, and there is nothing you can do to access it, unless you open the source file and parse it yourself.

Hallo gurus,
I'm a absolute html-beginner and so I have absolute beginner's questions.
MY ASSUMPTIONS on what I want to have
a)
Suppose I have a simple html-page which contains
two radion-buttons
a edit-control
and
a "Store"-Button for storing the content of the htmp-page somewhere (lets assume in an excel-file)
b)
Any user makes his entries now (selects a radio-button and enters some text)
c)
After that the user presses the "Store"-Button for storing his choices to a Excel-File.
My Questions
1) With which tool do I program such an html-page? Notepad? or any .net-ide-tool?
2) Is html the right technology? or some asp-stuff? or xml-stuff?
3) How can I store the user's choices? any Scripting? or with any C#-Code?
4) Is there any example at codeproject available?
Sorry for my stupid questions
Thank you for your help

1. Notepad is fine, or any other HTML development tool.
2. You must use some server-side scripting technology to implement the action of converting and storing the data in an Excel file. ASP is one possible choice.
3. See 2.
4. Search the Articles section.

Hi there,
I once had a script which I executed upon page load to remove those rectangles around the last clicked link: My links don't load a new page, but just change the content of some parts of the page. The script ran over all the dom-items and unselected everything.
I have no idea how this has been done anymore. It's a long time ago. Does anyone know where to find it?
Thanks a ton!

Why not just use span tags and handle their onclick ?
Whatever the case...you could try onselectstart="return false" inside your body tag...if thats the right event?
However I think this only works inside IE and it prevents textboxes and other input controls from receiving input. But you can work around that to by changing onselectstart to return TRUE when inside elements which need selection.
Lastly...you could just traverse the DOM looking for A tags and calling each elements blur() that might work and sounds like what you may have done in the past

Hello
I need to make use off the GUI from a Win app, and use it on the web(web app), my first ide was to use crate a Class Library and add an user control to it. This have´nt workt out yet. I´ve searched the internet and found som pages where this topic is discussed, but cant get it to work...
Anybody who can direct me to a tutorial or something like that.
If somebody has an example where this scenario is implemented, could you send it to me..
e-mail: vidden80@yahoo.com
All hints are welcome....

You cannot "convert" Win app GUI into Web UI. You either need to build your Web UI or create a Win App that runs in sandbox (the client needs .Net Framework though).
If you want to build a Web-based rich-thin client, have a look at AJAX and learn some advanced object-oriented javascript.
I am currently using MyAjax.Net from Jason Diamond and can say I'm pretty much satisfied with it.

Hi All,
I have a button control.
By clicking the button a pop-up page should come.
I had written a javascript function to do that and that is working fine.
But the problem is like this,
if the popup is already opened thn again a new pop-up should not open even i am click
the button. ie, new pop-ups page should come only when there is no pop-ups are already
opened.
I think this is a common scenario in web developing.
Please let me know the solution.
Thanks in Advance,
ravi

Are u using Window.open() in javascript to open the pop up.
If yes then by specifying a name for the popup window as second argument of window.open u can solve this problem. That is
Window.Open(pageURL,SomeNameForPopUpWindow,WindowProperties);

Thank u very much Leena.
The problem was solved.

Code:
parent.iframe.location.href = "a.apsx";
or
parent.iframe.document.location.href = "a.apsx";
But when the frame named "iframe" loaded successful the progress bar ( on the bottem) run slowly and when I click on other hyperlinks, nothing happen?

|

What is the question, really?
Where is the frame located relative to the code, as you are using "parent"?
Is the frame a frame or an iframe?
Do you really have a file with the extension "apsx"?
Where are the hyperlinks?
