How can I use the DropDownList control to handle active and inactive field values. For example, a Web form is used to display historical Assignment records and has a DropDownControl called ddlProjectCode. Since we are showing historical records, ddlProjectCode has to be able to display both active and inactive ProjectCodes, but when the user tries to change the ProjectCode or add a new Assignment record, then ddlProjectCode should only list the active ProjectCodes. Has anyone come accross a similar situation?
I thought I could use the DropDownList.Text property to display any text, even if it is not in the list, but that does not seem to be the case.

Instead of juggling your data using one ddl, try using 2 ddls placed at the same location and show/hide them depending on your conditions.

Hi
I'm developing some ActiveX controls for a web page and I was wondering if it is possible for the browser to detect that an old version of the control is registered and automatically download a new one.
I have packed the controls in a cab file which is available on a server, when a user wants to access the page the browser downloads the cab file, registers the controls and everything works fine. But if I modify one control and update the cab file will the browser be aware of the new version?
Thanks,
Marius

Which language and database u r using?

You need to be using some way of saving settings such as a database or at the very least a text file.
What do you mean by 'When I save this page'?
To save radio button settings you must give the options a value and then save the value somehow.
Let me know more details and i'll try and help more.
Thanks

Hi:
For an auction process, I am doing an Web application and I need to put an stopwatch in a Web page to synchronously show the seconds, minutes and hours decreasing from an established time hh:mm:ss to 00:00:00.
What is the best alternative taking in account that I have VS2005 as the tool to develop the application? i.e. to run this stopwatch in the server or the client?, which programming language to use?
Thanks for you attention.

I just Installed Apache Server on a Windows XP Professional, Apache Server is running properly but when installing php, the server is uploading the files but not running the php scripts within the files.
I configured apache server by the book, it recognizes the PHP file so it reads the HTML tags inside it but it just skips the PHPscripting parts,
Any Ideas about how to solve this problem?

Luke

In VS2005 Beta the oersonal web kit is available, I have loaded and CTR+F5 the I closed the page and tryed to add a user as it says in the doc, the page is loaded and after I click the Security tab this error is shown:
"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation."
How can I FIX THIS?

When you upload afile via your browser using HTTP how does this all happen?
I imagine the browser constructs some fancy HTTP headers with the name of the file on your local hard drive and when sent the browser then knows to begin uploading that file?
The reason I ask is becuz I am using the XmlHttpRequest object and cannot figure out if file upload is possible???
I know you can send any header you wish to the server via XmlHttpRequest but I can't see what I describe above as being acceptable for security reasons...
Cuz then you could use XmlHttpRequest on any web site to steal files from a users local machine - which can't be a good thing
So if this isn't possible, does anyone know if it's possible to upload files via XmlHttpRequest without the use of another IE proprietary activeX like ADODB - which i've read you can use to stream local file data, sending it inside a FORM's textarea...
So...is this possible???

Hi,
I am trying to have to div tags next to each other. In the style propery for each I wwither made float: left, or float:right. And I gave it a width of 50% each. This doe not work in IE. It seems to make each DIV bigger than the allocated 50% and therefore aligns the DIVs below each other. How do I solve this?
And secondly. Lets say I want to display First Name, Last Name, and Email Address for each customer on one line. I do not want to use tables for this. Must a put eack value in a sepeate DIV? Maybe give first name and last name a width of 25% each, and then 50% for email address.
Please can someone help.

First of all, make sure that you have a doctype tag as the first line in the document. You can't put an xml tag in the document, or IE will ignore the doctype tag. If you don't have a doctype, the browser will work in 'Quirks Mode', which will make the browser interpret the html code as browser specific as possible, e.g. like ancient versions of the browser would interpret it.
If you have padding and borders on the elements, their size is added to the specified size, so if you specify a width of 50% and have padding and/or borders, the total width will be more than 50%.
There is a bug in IE where it in some cases will need three extra pixels in the width of the containing element for the elements inside it to fit.
For the customer, put each customer in an element, and each property in an element inside it. Quite similar to how you would do it in xml.
<div class="Customer">
<div class="FirstName"></div>
<div class="LastName"></div>
<div class="Email"></div>
</div>
Now you can format this any way you like, using css. Example:
.Customer { clear: both; height: 20px; }
.Customer div { float: left; }
.Customer .FirstName { width: 100px; }
.Customer .LastName { width: 100px; }
.Customer .Email { width: 150px; }
---
b { font-weight: normal; }

I'm trying to change the position of the IE toolbars, in order to save some space on the screen. When i'm closing the browser and then reopen it, the toolbars are moving back to their default coordinates. Do you know how should i solve this issue?
I'm running IE 6.0 with SP1, on a Win2K machine.
