You need to override the OnInitDialog (WM_INITDIALOG) and put your SetDlgItemText in that function, after the call to CDialog::OnInitDialog(); Hope that helps. It's not unlikely that it will use shifts instead of your numbers. Using shifts would probably make the code more effecient. It's not always true that a simple statement (to write) gives the smallest and most effecient code in the exe file...
