I know it is doable but can't remember the syntax.....
But remember that users don't like site making navigation annoying.

I am slightly confused as to what you want, Are you saying that you have disabled the back button but want it removed?
Please link me to an example of what you want, provide a better more detailed description of what this is going to be for, or take images of what you want.

Just in case this is what you wanted to stop the user going back this a new option:
try {
history.go(-1);
} catch (e) {}
BUT DON'T USE THAT, IT'S NOT GOOD

If this is a public site and I accessed it I would be pissed and close immediately if you mess with the back button. If it is for a strict business rule that is 100% necessary that is fine otherwise you are going to turn off a lot of potential visitors.

I am no expert in this but i don't think web sites can change browser settings, period. Otherwise that would be a security risk.
But again I am probably wrong, and if I am then... well that would suck

You are not wrong.
I don't understand how people can even begin to think in the direction of changing stuff like that. I get disturbed just by thinking that something like that would be possible...

Reminds me of the many MANY "send me codes urgently to disable a popup blocker so I can show a popup" posts....

Hey friends
(1) What do you use to deploy Asp.Net Applications in ISP? Of course, msi packages are forbidden,
then usually we need separate aspx, ascx, etc, from source files what not can be sent to server.
(2) Too, when you use 3rd components or tools (like FCKEditor) what has a dozen of images and js files,
do you deploy all together in your project files or in a separated procedure?
(3) I know the VS2005 built in deployment tool and Unleash It[^], do have opinions or another suggestions?
Regards

If you wish to pass the boring work of enter in each subfolder, select just ascx, aspx, ashx, etc and NOT *.cs, etc, then just FTP is perfect...

I tend to use the VS2005 publish option to copy the "needed" files to a test folder. I then FTP that folder up to my server.

Firstly you have not used that as a way for admins to edit the page have you?
Second there are 2 ways of doing that.
If you only want to receive the value and do not require it to stay in the that url (like if you are going to place a cookie or have a session) then you can redirect the user.
A PHP version of this is:
header('Location: index.php');
or you can use the obvious approach and use frames (I don't think you need an example for this).

Or you can use Mod_Rewrite if you are using Apache (or a appropriate alternative in IIS)

What would this achieve? I think that he wants to acknowledge user input, by simply re-directing could he capture it?

For IE6 or IE7
Is there a browser property which tells when the page is completely loaded, with all images and text completely rendered and ready to be viewed?
The page may not be fully rendered even though document.readyState=="complete" . If I look at the status bar I can see images still downloading and the page is not fully rendered.
I thought I might read the status via script, but window.status is not providing any text (IE7).
What I'm trying to do is cover the page with an opaque looping FLASH animation until the page underneath is ready to be be viewed at which point I will stop the animation and hide it so that the page underneath is revealed.
Thank you for any insights or help
Tom

There is a simple way to detect this.
in the body tag use the on.load parameter.
(on.load does not have a period in between the on and the load but this forum blocks that word)
so an example is:
<body on.load="function()">
|
|
|
|
|
Thanks for this advice Brad, I do run an setup function with on.load ... the problem I'd been having was with images when I updated the page... I wanted them to be fully cached at the time the hidden DIV they were in was displayed. I think I've got it solved now... I do a caching routine using new Image() ... loading them into an array. I then check the readyState of those images at a time interval... when all register as "complete" I reveal the DIV.
