I agree. How does Code Project currently handle Page Views? In my (somewhat ignorant) opinion, there is very little difference between serving up a Web Page, or serving up a Zip File.

Jeff,
Similar to RapidShare? But I think it would be resource-intensive right?

Maybe I'm being naive, but page views are already counted. What is the difference between counting the serving of a page (Page Views) or the serving of a zip file???

if we had an search ability for the forums? It can make reposts an smaller occurrence. See[^]

Something else then Search comments[^], or you missed that one?

Here in the forums there's a nice big Search box thingy... that doesn't search the forum.
And what does search the forum says "Search comments" rather than "Search Posts".
I find that very non-intuitive. If I'm looking at a forum I'm unlikely to want to search articles.

I'm with you. I don't even know where the link to the comments search is at. This could definitely use some improving.

Thanx. I did indeed miss it. Don't know how or why.

First, we can already search the forums. Second, it doesn't stop reposts.

1 - New accounts not allowed to post ANYWHERE. Let them download, no posting.
2 - If enough people make complaints against a particular account, make the account 'post after review'.

How about new accounts can only post at most x characters at a time?

Then we use --x until he can't. There probably is a minimum that we can use.

True. How about new accounts have a nuisance character limit for posting and are not allowed to use any html tags?

That would work too but is probably more complex.

True.
http://forums.asp.net/[^] follows this practice. All new accounts are routed through a stringent moderation practice and only after the credibility of the posting accounts are established, the accounts are flagged 'Fit for Posting Directly'

Or how about, until you have shown that you can be trusted and post without bothering people, you can not post HTML. In other words, posting in HTML becomes an earned reward.
Maybe a mentoring group for new accounts? Although the number of new accounts on a daily basis likely makes this an unworkable solution.

This sounds workable.
Actually, this could take care of 1 and 2.
Earn HTML rights after posting an article (after the article is moved from -unedited- status) or making x number of posts in the forums. If enough people make a complaint about abusing HTML -- loss of HTML posting rights.

any chance you can move the abuse and/or delete links to the top before the message? This way such assholes such as Byle can delete their messages if they truly are testing it. Also, CP admins could then delete it without resorting to the database.
