Can you please tell me how to make a customised standalone database software...??? Also simple installation procedure for novice user of computer... Because if we use oracle or sql then it is not easier to deploy for novice user of computer.... So is there any other solution or database which is used for stand alone database application?

Access databases, otherwise know as Jet. They don't need to install anything to use them from your code. Security sucks though.

I have an object that I've created to interface with a file upload and parsing in a webapp. The object basically keeps a string of the filename inside itself and then parses the file into a list at the proper time.
The file is uploaded and then hashed and the hash is presented to the user before "signing". After they sign the file is parsed. If, however, they close the page or don't do anything with it, how can I guarantee the file is deleted from the disk? Would it be best to put a deletion routine in the destructor of the object?

Ask the user to confirm the transaction is done in another web page.

There are no destructors in the .NET CLR. There is a Dispose method you could implement, but it'll get called on every object that implements it, regardless if your transaction is complete or not.

You've got to be joking, right? This is not a suitable subject line to get someone to answer your questions.
goodonebond wrote: I need a help in code to make Gantt chart in asp.net vb.net
Find an ASP.NET graphing library that can do this. There isn't one built into the .NET Framework.
goodonebond wrote: audio/video conferencing and chat application ... whiteboard in asp.net
In ASP.NET?? Don't ask for much, do you...
You're not going to get the source code for such applications from anyone here. CP exists to help you write your own code, NOT just hand it over to anyone who asks.
All three of these apps will involve considerable coding to get to this to work, both on the client side and a central server to organize and relay data, none of which will be done in ASP.NET.

Start by writing out your problem, then breaking it down into smaller problems. Keep doing this until each problem is sufficiently small that you can see how to code it.
If you can't work out solutions to any of the smaller problems then come back and ask (politely) for assistance. But asking for Gantt chart/chat/video conferencing with a white board software is just way too much.

Read the forum guidelines. Some of the highlights:
1. Don't include URGENT or HELP in your message title.
2. Make your message title something meaningful like "looking for chat and Gantt code"
3. DON'T CROSSPOST.

If you want help urgently then you should pay for a support call. If you want it free you will have to wait until someone who can answer your question has the time to help you out.

To put it simply - That subject line was just plain rude.

Hello
I have created an application in VB.NET using VS2005. I wanted to do a custom installation for it (not use ClickOnce), so I looked on the internet which showed me that I need to Add a New Project, and seclect the "Setup and Deployment" on the left and choose the correct template.
However I do not have this. Whenever I choose New Project, all, I get is the following:
* Windows Application
* Class Library
* Console Application
* My Movie Collection
* Screen Saver Startewr Kit
* Search Online Templates (which does nothing!!)
I have installed everything that came on my CD, VB, C#, C++, Java, Web, SQL. Why can I not see the same New Project dialog box as everyone else!
It's hard tp exlain without showing screenshots - but I don't know how to do this on this messagebox. Sorry.
I have looked in the Settings and cannot find any settings to turn this on or off.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Is this the Express edition? If so, it doesn't come with the Setup projects, nor does it support them. Express only supports ClickOnce deployment.

Yes it is the Express Edition. I believe it came free with a magazine!!
Assuming that it is not possible to download the template / project that is require to do the custom installations, what version of Visual Studio do I actually need?
Thanks for your prompt reply.

Any edition except Express. You can download the project templates all you want. They still won't work because the designer support to use them isn't in the Express editions.

OK.
In that case I will browse the inerent to find the best deal for VB.NET 2005 (or maybe even try Microsofts new version).
Thankyou for your time in resolving this matter for me.

I have a Public Sub that returns values from an Access database and populates a combo box. I have another sub that is called when the selected value of the combo box changes. I want the second sub to be able to access the data table that was retrieved earlier and check for a flag that may or may not be set. Can a data table be passed? Or is this not the proper method to do this?
Thanks,
Dan

Yes, you can pass a DataTable, but unless you're processing the data in the entire table, you should only be passing the row in question.

How about this, what I have done is passed to the other the .text value of my combo box. So my function call looks like this:
<br />
TwentyFourHourReport(cboDiseaseName.Text)<br />
And inside of my sub I have created a new SQL statement that looks for the particular row in the data base that corresponds with the above .text value and return two columns, one for the DiseaseName and the other for TwentyFourHourFlag.
Thanks again Dave

A combo has both value and display members. Usually, if you're going to pick something from a combo that's been populated by records from a table, you pass the value (normally the record ID) to a function that will return that record from the database.

Dave,
While in a meeting I had some time to think about this. What I am trying to do is this, I have a Sub that populates the combo box on a form -
<br />
Public Sub DiseaseList(ByVal connectionString As String)<br />
'Disease List<br />
Dim strSQLDiseaseList As String = "Select DiseaseName, DiseaseCode, SurveillanceFormFlag, TwentyFourHRReportFlag, CausativeOrganismFlag, SerotypeFlag, SiteOfInfectionFlag From Disease"<br />
Dim daDisease As New OleDbDataAdapter(strSQLDiseaseList, connectionString)<br />
Dim dtDisease As New DataTable("Disease")<br />
<br />
Try<br />
daDisease.Fill(dtDisease)<br />
Catch ex As Exception<br />
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message)<br />
End Try<br />
<br />
'daDisease.Fill(dtDisease)<br />
<br />
With cboDiseaseName<br />
.DropDownStyle = ComboBoxStyle.DropDownList<br />
.DataSource = dtDisease<br />
.DisplayMember = "DiseaseName"<br />
.ValueMember = "DiseaseCode"<br />
.SelectedIndex = cboDiseaseName.FindStringExact("")<br />
End With<br />
'End Disease List<br />
End Sub<br />
Then I have an event for SelectedValueChanged -
<br />
Private Sub cboDiseaseName_SelectedValueChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cboDiseaseName.SelectedValueChanged<br />
Dim strDiseaseName As String<br />
<br />
TwentyFourHourReport(cboDiseaseName.Text, StrConnectionToDatabase())<br />
End Sub<br />
I will eventually have 4 function calls in the above Sub to test for flags set in the database.
In the function (which I am still in the middle of writing) will test to see if the flag is set, if it is then it will display a label informing the user of a 24 hour reporting criteria.
Having read your most recent reply I was thinking that I could actually query the DataTable that I filled with the first Sub to find out if the TwentyFourHRReportFlag is set. This way I am not making another call to the database when I should have the data in a DataTable already.
Also, if I place a message box in the cboDiseaseName_SelectedValueChanged Sub I will get that message box to pop up about 4 times before the form actually loads. I think it is due to database calls for the other combo boxes but I am not sure. Is there a better way than SelectedValueChanged to be the event to check for changed criteria?
Thanks,
Dan

HurricaneDan wrote: This way I am not making another call to the database when I should have the data in a DataTable already
Great! Why make another round trip if you already have the data. All you have to do if Filter the datatable by the DiseaseCode and you should get a single row returned.
HurricaneDan wrote: Also, if I place a message box in the cboDiseaseName_SelectedValueChanged Sub I will get that message box to pop up about 4 times before the form actually loads.
SelectedValue will get fired once after the combo is bound to the data. If you have a MsgBox in each combobox's SelectedValueChanged event, this is why you're getting 4 Message Boxs.
No, there is no "better method" of doing this.
