that is why sun is going under. I wonder why anyone continues to invest in those companies(open sourcer). They forget that they're profit oriented and not communist organizations(but they certainly act like they are).

Well, I guess at the moment it is mostly free. But at any time they could do to Java just want they did to Star Office. Sun is not about doing good for the development community, they are about making money and destroying Microsoft. That is their only two goals. I figure Microsoft is the same way, but more than trying to destroy others, they just release products that are better! Remember, this is only .NET version 1.0
Star Office is the prime example, once they realized they could not kill Microsoft Office with it, they changed and are now charging for the product. One day it is free, the next you have to pay for it.
Imagine if Microsoft was not around (or even not quite as strong), they could throw all Java development under licensing restrictions where you would have to pay royalties just like Unisys and GIF. That is the type of company Sun is and has been. That does not mean I don't one the Sun's of the world hanging around keeping Microsoft in shape, if it where not for competition, we would never have any advancement from Microsoft.
Microsoft is the largest software company on the face of the earth and they have invested everything into .NET because they know it will take over just like Windows did. Just wait until Microsoft (or independent developers like the Mono Project) takes .NET multiplatform, which I believe will be in the near future.
You like Java, no problem, you can still program in a Java syntax language in .NET, that is one of the beauties of .NET, it can accommodate most language preferences. Sun has you in one box, Java, you have no choice, you are stuck with that syntax if you like it or not.

Now if only M$ start playing their cards right, and what i assume they are trying to do with the .NET framework in particular C#, is to provide an opposition for JAVA, is to release a free consumer IDE like Forte. The adoption of C# will be greatly increased All they need to do, is just strip Visual C#, into a scaledown version available for download only.
I can only hope and dream for that day.

An obvious question. If you are for supporting Sun and Java why are you here?

how can i convert from string to byte[] without using unicode and without having to go byte by byte
I cant use this...
byte[] sr;
string s;
s = "ééééééé";
sr = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(s.ToCharArray());
because it encodes to ASCII 7bit and it changes the "é" char

Hi,
Does anyone know how to include a DLL project(Not .DLL file) in ASP project?
I used to make the project as DLL, and then include the DLL file in my ASP project to test the functionality of my DLL project. There is an option in ASP project, to include the DLL reference, as well as, the project reference. However, when I tried to include the project reference, it is throwing some error. Does anyone experienced the same problem? If you know solution to this problem, please post it here.
Thanks.

Hi Leppie,
I have the rtf file loaded into a richtextbox and I can print it as a standard text document without formatting or graphics but cannot yet print it with formatting and graphics. Can you tell me how to do this complete with formatting and graphics?

i assume u used this method to load the file?
richTextBox1.LoadFile(@"C:\MyDocs\Testdoc.txt",
RichTextBoxStreamType.RichText);
do u see it in the application as it should be printed?
|
|
|
|

Yes, I use the LoadFile method to load the file except I use the rtf extension for the filename, richTextBox1.LoadFile(@"C:\MyDocs\Testdoc.rtf"); and it does render properly in the richTextBox1. I can change the formatting, cut and paste images, save and reload the file and it always renders properly to the screen complete with images and formatting. I would like to print what I see on the screen. Actually I want to add the richTextBox contents to the end of a report I am already successfully printing. I can send the richtext formatting code to a stream and thought I might have to parse it to convert it the the proper information to feed the drawstring methods for printing. But I will appreciate any other options as well that will allow me to print the rtf document. Thanks for your help.

hi
thx for all the info, i havent , well cant try this at the moment, i have no printer
there is very good printing examples in the code of the book GDI Plus (chapter 9) . u can download it at www.wrox.com .
hope u that helps
perhaps u are just missing a line or 2
PS: i see NOW that u need to paint the contents of the richtextbox to the derived graphics object from the PrintPage event. from msdn:
Handle the PrintPage event where you specify the output to print, by using the Graphics included in the PrintPageEventArgs.
the problem is to "paint" the content correctly to the graphics object. sorry, at the moment i cant help u anymore

hello,
I have a question:
I have a written html page with image. when the user click on it i want it to raise event,I do not want to handle it throw the asp.
I dont want to write:
I want to handle the onclick event in my aspx.cs file
how can I do it?
thank you very much for your help,
sharon

If you want to handle it on the server instead of the client you have to make it a server object. Offhand I'm not certain an IMG raises a server side click event but I am fairly certain an Input type="Image" does.
Then just make sure and add the event handler code inside your .cs .
BTW: for next time this is an ASP/ASP.NET question and should go there.
