I second this idea, perhaps with the ability to change the default (which would be the userid) to something user specified, like a user name.
Optionally, provide the same mechanism to simply point to the profile page.

I think this suggestion should be simple when the website is moving to .NET. Chris and Co. are working on a new version of the website, as they tell every now and then. Isn't it?
In ASP.NET URLRewriting is pretty simpler. With the classic ASP version, this might involve costly ISAPI DLLs and more number of server hiccups like 'ASP Engine Cried', considering the acute load on the server.
Let us wait and see if someone from Chris Team can advise whether member homepages is part of thier TodoList for the new version.

Yes - and that was the whole point. My name's Pete O'Hanlon and not Pete OHanlon, so I get a bit annoyed when people leave out the apostrophe - which would happen with this scheme. And it's not only me - it's the other several million people worldwide who happen to have an apostrophe in their name.

That would be ok too, but having my name in the URL isn't as important. The URL will be on a card that already has my name. Shorter is better here.

How about a view count on messages posted? When I send one of my sidesplitting hilarious wisecracking responses it would be good to know how many people have seen it. I myself read my own posts many times during a day, to bask in the sheer quality of it.
Also, on other websites I am generally drawn to those posts with a high view count. Coupled with the earlier 'solved' option, a message with a high view count, which is still unsolved would give a CPian major kudos if they solved it.
(Which in turn might impress some women, which might mean I get lucky sometime soon.....)

How do you define view? If you are in Message View then is it viewed if it's clicked on (to expand it)? In Expanded View is it viewed if it appears in a page of messages?

I only ever use Message View, so I assumed everybody did things my way (I sound like my wife....).

This is new as of today, correct? I like it, but a few comments:
- The images should give a better indication that they are clickable, it's not obvious that you can click on them.
- There are some sites that are missing that I think would be good additions to the list:
- You might want to consider changing some of the icons to use the ones available here[^] and remove the border. I know the border was to make these look like buttons, but it makes the images look strange (and with item #1 wouldn't be needed).

I like the tooltip that displays when you mouse over the image, but I think it was better without the site names after each image. I think the site names make it look too busy. I do still think you shouldn't have the border around the images as it looks better, to me at least.

I don't want to assume everyone knows what all the icons mean. It's a tough one.
As to borders: which browser are you using? The images are all set to have border=0 and I'm not seeing any borders on IE or Firefox

Good point. I'm used to seeing them on the blogs I read as well as my own so I didn't think about that.

I'm using IE7, but I think we're talking about two different things. Compare the images you are using to the ones here[^], specifically looking at Google, Digg, and del.icio.us. The ones you are using all have a rounded look to them with a thin dark grey border around the edge.
I think with the change to add the tooltip, you could easily use the icons from that page (which are different in some cases (Google, Digg, Furl, Yahoo, Simpy, and Spurl) than the ones you have) and not loose anything.

Hi,
I like to find articles base upon the DotNet Version. So if I want DotNet 3.5 articles, I can check '3.5' by the search box.
This would cut down on time spent looking for things.

This is a good idea, but it shouldn't necessarily be limited to just versions of .NET as it can also apply to versions of MFC and C++.
