Create database schema for distribution scrozier19-Jul-02 5:28 scrozier 19-Jul-02 5:28  Is there an easy way to make VS or some SQLServer tool create a script for me that will install my application's database schema in a new, empty database (for a new installation of the app)? Or is there a better way? Backup/restore? Thanks! Check the options required for your deployment. I hadn't noticed it before. However, in my Visual Studio Server Explorer, the "Generate Create Scripts" item appears in the context menu but it is disabled (grayed out). It looks like maybe I need to install the "Client Tools"? But I don't know how to find them since my SQL Server came with Visual Studio. Any help? I've read a stack of articles and white papers about MSDE that talk all around the issue, but nothing that deals directly with what must be a relatively simple task. I am admittedly new to the Microsoft deployment/setup world. Can someone point me to a source for a step-by-step for MSDE distribution? All you need to do is run the Setup.exe. However, I recommend creating a Batch file to run the Setup because by default when it installs on WindowsNT it will be setup with "Windows Authentication Only" which will mess up any SQL Server Logins you have created. If you are going to have more than a handful of people access this then do not use Access over the web. It's slow! The DB can't grow past 2GB and Access can't handle more than 64K rows in a table. Never, ever, allow anyone to download your database. Move it out of a public folder pronto. But, do make sure you have write permissions for the folder the MDB is in so it can create a lock file. Try this for your connection string... For now I am stuck using it since only a few people use the db, and they are sticking to access. Here's what I did. ------------------ 1.) I moved the database from the public folder like you suggested. 2.) Checked the folder to make sure it had write permissions. 2.) Tried the connection string you provided and it worked great!!! I can now connect to the database!! *3.) ++My Problem now++: I can't seem to get the recordset to do anything. I just did a simple query of "Select * from Table1". and I get the error "Internet Client Error: Invalid Server Response". Could you tell me what language you are using? RDS (what you are using) over ADO is idenpendent of language, but I'm gonna try and past a code sample for ya. I noticed something odd about when I connect a "First-chance exception" ocurrs, but my exception code does not catch it. It appears that an access problem occurs on the server side. I am trying to configure the rds, so that it will allow access.. After several attempts, it still does not work correctly. An msdn article suggested that I download msadc sdk and use that to test that the Rds is working correctly. At any rate I think the connection string is right, and my query code was right. When you will write code in Basic and use several queries then you can simulate your code.
