Hello everyone,
I am programming a Isapi web application on WinCE with embedded Visual C++ 4.
What I try in the moment is to set a dial-up connection entry.
I took the example from the MSDN website:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms881667.aspx[^]
I extended the example with my RasEntry(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa450836.aspx[^]) settings and my RasDialParameters(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa450835.aspx[^]).
So far it works.
When I open the connection properties on the device and then open "Phone Number" there is the "Force Long Distance" option. This option is set. But I don't want that option to be set, because my connection isn't established with the option set!
I couldn't find a flag that I can set with the RasEntry settings.
And I also couldn't find a thing about "Force Long Distance" with google search...
Somebody know if there is a possibility to unset that option programmatically?
Greetings
Thomas

DLLImport CharSet=ChartSet.Ansi
Hello,
I am importing a DLL from a C++.
The DLL requires Ansi to be sent. However, the compact framework 3.5 can only be set for Unicode or Auto. I have tried settign for auto but this failed to work.
I am using C# VS 2008 to create a smart device.
Is there any work around for this problem.
Many thanks for any suggestions,
Steve

Hi.
I'm changing an existing C#/Compact framework 2.0 from using DataSets as the data storage (backed up by XML) to SQL Mobile 2005 (as an offline DB only). I'm doing this because after changing each position of the DataSet we were writing the XML to file system (just in case of a crash, low power, etc). That became very slow under Windows Mobile 5 (RAM -> ROM change).
So I've just finished rewriting the application so that it used SQL Mobile 2005. When only one entry in the DB changes its a lot faster. Great.
But when I delete all data from the DB or I want to insert all records into the DB it takes 1-2 minutes (about 200 entries). This just seems to be way too slow. That means that it can only write about 3 entries per second....that seems really slow.
The read performance is very good.
I'm using Microsoft SQL Server Mobile Edition 3.0.5206.0 from Visual Studio 2005. The performance is bad when running it inside the debugger and using the same code started directly on the PDA (without the VS 2005 debugger running).
I'm not sure how to export my tables as SQL code to code project. Any ideas? or what info can I share which could help anyone (who can help me )
Okay, so I ran a test with a Symbol MC70 (Intel XScale 624 Mhz processor). For 158 entries it took over 2 minutes to delete the DB (I delete each DataRow individually - is this why the delete takes so long?). The inserts took quite a while too, about 30 seconds).
Why are these values so long?
The DB Table has a primary key (4 columns) & the DB Table has a total of 40 columns.
Thanks
Martin

The dirty secret of SQL Server CE performance is that it's best not to use SQL. For simple queries that only affect one table - and INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE only can affect one table - it's better to use a SqlCeResultSet and iterate through it manually.
See for example this article[^] on insert performance.
DoEvents: Generating unexpected recursion since 1991

Hi Mike.
Thanks for your answer.
I ran into this same article today by chance....and enjoyed what I read. It seems quite annoying that the SQL Server CE team haven't implemented UpdateBatchSize as SQL Anywhere from Sybase has. Still I'll have to live with it....
I guess I'll have a bit of a rewrite to do, so that this works. Still a 10x performance increase would be really great.
Thanks
Martin

Hello Woody,
You can do this via the System.Diagnostics.Process class if you are using .NET CF 2.0. You can do this as follows:
using System.Diagnostics;
Process myProcess = new Process();
myProcess.StartInfo.FileName = @"\\My Documents\\Business\\Book1.XLS";
myProcess.StartInfo.Verb = "Open";
myProcess.Start()
This will launch the application associated with *.xls files ie Pocket Excel and open the specified file, alternatively you could also explicitly launch Pocket Excel by using similar code and requesting to launch the \Windows\pxl.exe executable.

hi
how can i change time & date in PPC using C# 2005 ?
thank for any help

I've only been able to manage that by using calls to the windows APIs which only work on some PDAs (on my development Dell X51V it works, on some Symbols it doesn't. I'm not sure why - no exception or anything, just the time doesn't change)
Hope that helps, but maybe someone knows a C# way of doing that.

Hello,
I am creating a SIP client on my PDA, so the interface looks like a soft phone. However, I have just used the tools out of the tool box.
When I look at the other interfaces on other soft phones you can download, they have very nice skins (sjPhone, kapanga).
I am wondering is it possible to add controls that look like some of the SIP phones that you can download. These phones look like real phone.
Many thanks for any advice,
Steve

I am new to Mobile development. Now that that disclaimer is out of the way. I have a project that consists of a bar code device with windows CE on it. The client want a inventor software.
i am trying to write a program using .net compact framework VB.net. I am trying to write a program (for the device) that will connect to a sql database on the desktop. I have created a connection and dataset using the data source wizard. I am able to test it buy right clicking on data Adapter and view data and it successfully runs the fill query to get data.
But, when I try to fill the dataset in my code I get this message.
Specified SQL Server not found: LIT3\SQLEXPRESS
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Our goal is to send data back to desktop over RF realtime. Does anyone have any ideas?
