Nope quite right, it was a mobile development questions, nobody's splitting hairs, just that there is a mobile development forum, or maybe we should just axe it?

Have you even bothered to look on google?
Pryzrak wrote: If you are so smart you tell me what i did wrong
I could, it would involve cranking up google and typing a few choice key phrases, surely you can do that?

That's a giveaway, enough said.

Asking on the Mobile Development forum would have been better, but it's not really a programming question.
The stand-alone emulator should have created a connection called DMA in ActiveSync. Open ActiveSync, go to File, Connection Settings. Check that 'Allow connections to one of the following' is checked and ensure that DMA is selected in the drop-down list (the other entries will be serial ports).
From the start menu on your PC, select Device Emulator Manager. In the tree of emulators, right-click the one you want to connect to ActiveSync and select Connect, to start it if it isn't already started. Then, right-click again once it's started and select Cradle. Your emulator should now be connected via ActiveSync and you should be able to install your application using ActiveSync's Explore feature.
Do check that you're running the right version of the emulator - it's got progressively better. The current version is version 3.0 which came with Visual Studio 2008 - you can download it separately here[^].

This demonstrates to me that the sorry ass lamers that previously posted have no place here ... if they didn't know the answer they should have shut up and stop with the stupid remarks! Thank you Mike for posting this solution, because the funny thing is i was looking for this too, and there was no concrete way to make it work, or some specific documentation. And for the "geniouses" that posted previously, google gave me tons of results that were indicating to install visual studio to do this, and guess what also google led me here!

Does it taste better when it's spoon fed to you?

If you don't realise it, to us "normal people" it happens sometimes that we miss some things although they are obvious. I think that's why this kind of internet communication exist, to get some sort of solution or hint anytime, anywhere for anytype of problem! So if you have some sort of usefull answer and if you want to keep it only for yourself, well then keep it for yourself but don't mock others. All the respect for the ones that actually try to give a helpul answer, to the others think of yourselves in the same situation .

Never needed to ask a question, that can't be found using google, it seems the simplist of questions are being asked (not even in the correct forums ), and expect a 'spoon fed' answer. If I was in your situation can had the same problem, I'd be heading of to the MSDN forums you'd get a consise answer probably from a guy who worked on the emulator itself.

The thing with this emulator is that is usually integrated with visual studio and has all the necessary configurations preloaded so everyone takes it for granted. The problem appears when you want for whichever reason to use it as a standalone app. Unfortunatelly this question has been asked by others on the MSDN forum that you indicated, and the "solutions" did not work in my case.
Still i cannot get internet connectivity using the standalone app, because the various windows mobile (in my case) images although they are installed do not appear in the Device Emulator Manager (I can only start them from the start menu via their shortcuts). Maybe i'm doing something wrong, or i don't have all the adjiacent software installed, nevertheless the problem is still there.

Hello,
I am getting linker errors in Windows CE 'Smart Device Project'. I am trying to import detours.lib (which is being built using .Net 2005 compiler). These set of libraries and binaries are working with VC 8(.NET 2005) project.
But when i use the same set of libraries with Windows CE 'Smart Device Project' it gives linker error.
Can anybody help me with this.
Thanx in Advance!!

Import libraries are built for the processor architecture that the DLL is built for, as they contain call thunks in the appropriate machine language. Desktop computers use the x86 architecture. Many Windows CE devices and all Windows Mobile devices use the ARM architecture.
A .lib file might also be a static library containing executable code for a given processor architecture.
To prevent a problem from occurring where code for one processor is misinterpreted by another, the linker will not let you link object files for different architectures together.
You will need to recompile detours for ARM on Windows CE. If it's this library[^] it will most likely need to be rewritten to inject the correct instructions for ARM as well.

Thanks Mike for the reply.
If it is so then my query is : Are detours compatible with Windows CE.
Because to build the detours source code i need to recompile the whole thing in Windows CE.
But unfortunately i am not able recompile detours code in Win CE enviornment.
Can you please help me with this.

Hi,
I have added new user for SQL Server so they can access my db. I have also set up a virtual folder which points to the sqlcesa30.dll. I tested in web browser to make sure the .dll is acting as the broker between sqlmobile agent and SQL Server.
However, when I do a pull I get the exception
ex = {"A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT."}
I have read all over the internet and no luck. I have made an exception in windows firewall for HTTP and Secure HTTP so access is available.
I am using VS 2005, SQL Server 2005 and Vista Premium.
Thanks,

Hi there.
Can anyone tell me how to lock my program, so it cant be closed og minimized in any way, not even with hardware buttons.
My program requires two files, an update program and the application itself.
Those two program should be the only two programs that should be able to run at my devices.
It is a kind of a kiosk mode i need. I have tried a few kiosk programs, but they always contains a menu, so my app can be closed to the menu window, which it may not do. If i can lock the OK button (because this button closes my program somehow) in any way at my app, these kiosk program are fine for me..
I hope you understand what i need, i am not english, so i guess my language may be a little bad..
have a nice day..

If you are using C#
<br />
private void Form1_Closing(object sender, EventArgs e)<br />
{<br />
e.Cancel = true;<br />

Hello,
I want to check values of registry in Windows mobile.
If anyone has any idea regarding this please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

This should be the same as on "normal" windows.
RegOpenKeyEx, RegQueryValueEx are all available.
If you mean like regedit on a PC, I've seen regedit clones for windows mobile before.
Iain.
Iain Clarke appears because CPallini still cares.

I am looking to set up a service that can receive a message from a phone. WHERE THE PHONE IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE MACHINE. I actually want to send a message from a phone directly to a web service. I will be writing the app on the phone as well. Example SMS would help. In other words is it possible to send a message to an IP from a phone in the form of an SMS?

Hello Everyone,
I've searched some posts and articles, and I can't seem to find a good example of making a cf app single instance only. I see that some posts use various Mutex classes that are not fully featured in the cf. Has anyone come across a solution to this?
Thanks,
Ryan

I think that OpenNetCF has a named mutex implementation that can be used across different processes, but I am not sure about it.
The most common solution is to check if a Window is already present and not start a new process:
<br />
[DllImport("coredll.dll", EntryPoint="FindWindow")]<br />
private static extern IntPtr FindWindow(string lpClassName,string lpWindowName);<br />
<br />
[DllImport("coredll.dll")]<br />
private static extern int SetForegroundWindow(IntPtr hWnd);<br />
<br />
[MTAThread]<br />
static void Main(string [] args)<br />
{<br />
string windowName = "MyForm";<br />
<br />
IntPtr window = FindWindow(windowName);<br />
if (window == IntPtr.Zero)<br />
{<br />
Application.Run(new MainForm(windowName));<br />
}<br />
else<br />
{<br />
SetForegroundWindow(window);<br />
}<br />
}<br />
This is not a bullet proof solution, but it works.
