How can I create a modal dialog box in a worker thread? In addition to that I tried to create a modal dialog box in a worker thread for Windows and it worked fine. So I think that the problem is about Windows CE?

Use the Device Emulator Manager application, and right-click on the PocketPC emulator in its treeview, and pick "Cradle". That will form an activesync connection to the emulator, as if it was a hardware device.

Hi All,
I am using .NET Compact framework, I have a text file having german text. The Text contains some special characters like 'ß','Ä','Ü' etc. i want to convert the text using codepage 850. But after conversion it is showing garbage for above characters.This might happen because these characters are incorrectly translated due to incorrect coding of translation table for code page 850. What should i do to display these characters properly after conversion?
I am using following code for doing that
//Create a new stream for the input file
StreamReader stream = null;
stream = new StreamReader(@"D:\SampleGermanText.txt", Encoding.GetEncoding(850), true);
string strLine = stream.ReadLine();
while (stream.EndOfStream == false) //loop until end of the file.
{
LogMessage(strLine);
strLine = stream.ReadLine();
}
stream.Close();
Thanks,
Tushar

The easiest way would be to substitute "ß" with "ss" and your done.

If it doesn't work properly, the file probably isn't codepage 850.
Take a look at the file in a hex editor - the easiest way for most programmers is to open it in Visual Studio by going to File, Open, File, selecting the file, then clicking the down arrow at the end of the Open button and selecting Open With. Then select Binary Editor.
Now, compare the characters you have against Microsoft's Code Page reference[^]. If it opens properly in Notepad, it's most likely Windows 1252[^].

Hi,
I have an TCP server client application, with client running on the WM 6.0.
I have using TcpClient class to establish connection to my server and send data. If I am using wifi the code is working fine, but if I am trying to use GPRS its not working. I think I have to start GPRS connection first. Can someone please tell me how to fix this.
here is the client side code
public class Client
{
public void GpsClient(string Ostring)
{
TcpClient socketForServer;
try
{
socketForServer = new TcpClient("energystudy.dyndns.org", 13000);
}
catch
{
Console.WriteLine("Failed to connect to server at {0}:13000", "energystudy.dyndns.org");
return;
}
NetworkStream networkStream = socketForServer.GetStream();
System.IO.StreamReader streamReader = new System.IO.StreamReader(networkStream);
System.IO.StreamWriter streamWriter = new System.IO.StreamWriter(networkStream);
try
{
string outputString;
// read the data from the host and display it
{
outputString = streamReader.ReadLine();
//Console.WriteLine(outputString);
streamWriter.WriteLine(Ostring);
//Console.WriteLine("Client Message");
streamWriter.Flush();
}
}
catch
{
Console.WriteLine("Exception reading from Server");
}
networkStream.Close();
}
}

Hello,
It would be great if you guy can answer the following questions.
1) There are three types of mobile projects such as Pocket PC 2003, SmartPhone 2003 and Windows CD 5.0. What are the differences?
2) Which one should I used if I want to develope the application for Windows Mobile 6 and Nokia Phones? OR Do I need to develop separated application for windows mobiles and Nokiea (Symbian OS) ?
3) I'm trying to find the wifi hot spots from my mobile application. I'm using this library. http://www.codeplex.com/managedwifi/Thread/List.aspx[^]
I wrote the following code in my program.
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) {
WlanClient WC = new WlanClient();
//We must define the flags for using the "GetAvailableNetworkList" function.
Wlan.WlanGetAvailableNetworkFlags flag = new Wlan.WlanGetAvailableNetworkFlags();
//refreshing the network list.
WC.Interfaces[0].Scan();
//The array that contains the networks details.
Wlan.WlanAvailableNetwork[] WList;
WList = WC.Interfaces[0].GetAvailableNetworkList(flag);
foreach (Wlan.WlanAvailableNetwork ssid in WList)
{
Console.WriteLine ("SSID is : " + Encoding.ASCII.GetString (ssid.dot11Ssid.SSID, 0, ssid.dot11Ssid.SSID.Length ));
}
}
but I'm getting this error "Can't find PInvoke DLL 'wlanapi.dll'." Any idea why?

Question #1 Response:
Main difference is in the UI because PDA vs Smart phone have different resolutions and navigation models.
Question #2 Response:
I'm working on a framework for building mobile applications across multiple phone types. I plan to have two different UI options J2ME or BREW which can then talk to another native program on the phone in J2ME, BREW, or C++/C#. The idea is that the UI components will be common across the phones but provide the ability to implement native application layer under the UI.

1) For a C# or VB.NET project it doesn't make much difference, but Windows Mobile 5.0 and later have included new WM-only APIs and wrapper classes. Visual Studio will only add these to the toolbox if you're using the correct SDK.
The .NET Compact Framework comes in several versions depending on the device operating system version and whether it's Windows Mobile (Pocket PC, Smartphone) or not. If the wrong version is loaded, the Compact Framework may not behave correctly.
For C++ it's very important to use the correct SDK as this determines the APIs you can use, the exact machine language generated by the compiler and the versions of runtime components loaded on the device.
2) For Windows Mobile 6 devices you should be using the Windows Mobile 6 SDK[^]. For touch-screen devices get the 'Professional SDK', for non-touch-screens get the 'Standard SDK'. You will need to select the right platform for your project by going to Project, Change Target Platform.
Nokia devices do not support the .NET Compact Framework. For these devices I believe you should program in C++ or Java.
3) This class is, as stated on the project home page[^], a wrapper for the Native WiFi API in Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 (if you download a hotfix) only. It is not present on the device and never will be. You get the error because wlanapi.dll doesn't exist.
The only common API for WLAN on Windows Mobile is the Windows Zero Configuration API which isn't very easy to use from C# (see for example WZCQueryInterface[^]). The OEM may have replaced WZC with their own interface (common, because WZC isn't terribly reliable) in which case you will have to use their programming interface.

Hello,
We have developed a BHO project using Windows Mobile SDK 6.0 for Pocket PC to monitor the webpage which contains login / password controls.
Now, we are able to monitor login / password page. But whenever we browse login / password page say www.gmail.com we got notification of password control present on the page. After that if we browse non-login / password page say www.google.com then it shows same result as above i.e. previous page password control. However if we refresh the page, it does not show any password control on the same page.
We detect password control present on the webpage using following methods –
Using BHO application, we have captured OnDocumentComplete and with using subclassproc for Internet Explorer WM_Activate messages where we are implementing out methods to check login / password.
EnumChildWindows (hWnd, GetDialogStringProc, (LPARAM)passFlg);
GetDialogStringProc checks password control as –
if(::GetWindowLong(hWnd, GWL_STYLE) & ES_PASSWORD)
{
*((BOOL *)lParam) = TRUE;
}
Using the code above we find the password control in the webpage. Now we are facing the problem of the controls being repeated during navigation. The same ones that are found on gmail.com come again when we browse to google.com. This issue goes away after refresh.
Thank you.
With regards,
Shashikant

To work with modem is a pain. You have to initialize the modem carefully. Search for samples here at CP.
