If the application is installed on the client side then,
The client should be able to design the page (himself) the format of the printing(Like: Rearranging ,Altering width and height the fields etc)

You have to use some kind of WYSIWYG editors. FCKEditor is a good one.

I don't know, but you can have many websites. BTW, why you need to know this ?

I recently attended an interview. there they raised this question. Since i don't have any idea about hoisting i didnt answer this.

Looks like your interviewer is a fool. I never heard some one asking odd questions like this.

It'll be better if you'll explain your requirement.

Is it just me or is retrieving profile/role info for a user incredibly slow? I used some code that creates an ODS for membership, profile and role info and tried to show all users in a grid on a small site with about 110 users and it takes 2m25s to do it.
Admittedly that's a local asp.net test server fetching from remote MS SQL DB over my 1Mb/s ADSL, but even when both web and db servers and colocated, it's not much better. Generally, why would I not store most user info in a table of my own making with loweredusername as the key?

Hello everyone,
I am a 4th year student of electronics & tele-communication engineering. I want to develop a customised client-server application for voip usage for our college LAN. We have PAP2T Linksys ATA's and want to develop an web application wherein students can initiate and access voice calls among themselves.
Someone advised us to use asp.net for the server side programming and asp.net ajax for client side. Since I am relatively a novice in programming, having only done coding in C++, .NET framework is entirely a new ballgame.
Can someone please advise on how to initiate this task and possibly advise us on how to go about developing this application.
Any inputs/aids/tips will be deeply appreciated.

Well, have you discussed this with your faculty? This post assumes this is for a project and the faculty should be the ones you consult with on what to do.

"Real programmers just throw a bunch of 1s and 0s at the computer to see what sticks" - Pete O'Hanlon

Hi Paul,
Thanx for the prompt reply. I think my post could have be a bit misleading. Well this is a project which I have undertaken for the fulfillment of the end-semester curriculum. This idea for the student project was duly vetted by my faculty, and in fact one of the faculty members advised me to take the recourse of ASP.NET.
Hope this should clear things up.
