I am interested in learning more about .NET programming. I see, .NET as the modern approach for develping user interfaces. However, I am not a big fan of C#. Does it make sense to develop a modern interface in C++ using .NET? If so, could somebody recommend a book to me that teaches .NET to a C++ programmer.
Thanks

BobInNJ wrote: Does it make sense to develop a modern interface in C++ using .NET?
I'm not sure how much sense it makes - only you can decide that.
I do know that Microsoft has positioned the C++/CLI language as
a tool for bridging existing native code to the .NET managed world.
Visual Studio designer support is limited for C++ as a result, which can
(and does IME) make C++/CLI a less productive option.
You may not like C# now, but when you write C++/CLI code it's nearly identical
to C#. Throw in better IDE support and C# soon makes more sense for managed
code development.
You can use C++/CLI as your .NET language of choice....just remember that Visual Studio
probably isn't going to give you much more than its existing support for it
in the future.
I'm a die hard C++ programmer and I resisted the C# thing, but once I went managed/.NET,
C# just makes the most sense for a C++ programmer.
I've personally dropped all my MFC code completely, but I still maintain a large base of
native C++ code mixed in with managed code. I get all the benefits of the rich .NET framework
along with the familiar native C++ code. C++/CLI bridges the two nicely as it is intended to do.
All my UI is done in C# these days.

Jesse Liberty's Programming C# is a good book for those coming from C++. However, be careful to get the right edition for your version of Visual Studio.
Programming C# 4th Ed is VS 2005 .NET 2.0
Programming C# 3.0 5th Ed is VS 2008 .NET 3.5

I am using The Windows Forms WebBrowser control in C#. I want to resynchronize or disable browser cache by customizing webBrowser. Needs to set the following flags: DLCTL_RESYNCHRONIZE or DLCTL_PRAGMA_NO_CACHE.
The reference says that I need to implement IDispatch (referenced at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa770041.aspx)
I am not sure what interface of webBrowser control I need to use? Please send me if you have any info.
Thanks,

Please paste this code in page_load event
Response.Expires = 0;
Response.ExpiresAbsolute = DateTime.Now.AddDays(-1);
Response.CacheControl = "no-cache";
Response.AddHeader("Pragma", "no-cache");
Response.AddHeader("cache-control", "private");
Let me know if you need more detail.
Thanks,

Thanks a lot, Arun. I am developing a flash application inside of webBrowser (that is in windows.forms).
It seems that a page_load event and Response are used at the server side to clean cache. my webBrowser works at the client side. I used external WinInet library cleared the web browser cache. However, it does not work consistent.
Is there a way to set these Pragma settings from client side?
I am really appreciated your reply.

Anyone who has office automation experience know how to reach the TextRange date field or the InsertAsField field.
I'm trying to parse out dates that are dynamically generated. TextRanges have insertDate methods that allow you to choose whether or not to insert them automatically, but I can't find any fields in the object model that describe the location of the date or its existence thereof.
This has been holding me up for a couple days, so any help would be appreciated.

I guess it might be worth mentioning that I'm using .net 2008 to modify powerpoint 2007 applications, though I think it will be the same for office/excel.

Ok... I'm having a problem with Ajax.
I don't know if here is the place to ask it, but here it goes...
My site uses latest version of Ajax, and Framework 3.5 (c# language)...
I am using script manager in the master page. Also the page gets refreshed async, using the Ajax timer control.
The task is to hide all the Ajax error alert windows.
I tried using the following methods:
1. setting the properties of the ScriptManager:
- AllowCustomErrorsRedirect="false"
- AsyncPostBackErrorMessage=""
2. Using the ScriptManager event OnAsyncPostBackError="ScriptManager1_AsyncPostBackError"
3. Using the EndRequest:
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(endRequest);<br />
<br />
function endRequest(sender, e) <br />
{<br />
if(e.get_error())<br />
{<br />
e._error.message = "";<br />
e.set_errorHandled(true);<br />
}<br />
}
4. using the JavaScript window.onerror event
The problem is that not all the errors are hidden, and also not always.
For example... I have the following scenario:
1. Load the page in IE.
2. Go to page code and delete ";" after one line (create a compilation error).
3. Save the page and wait for the refresh async postback.
- the end request event is fired, the original e._error.message is:
"Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 500."
- but the actual alert window that appears automatically has the following message:
"An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request.<br />
Compilation error."
Also the script manager event OnAsyncPostBackError does not fire.
Can someone give me a hand?
Thanks,
Valy.

I see nothing in what you posted that indicates the .NET Platform. It seems likely you need to spend some time learning more about the technologies you are using, or perhaps in this case not using.

You may be missing an include directory. Check the documentation for the project to see which libraries it requires and make sure your include directories point to those libraries.
Your warnings seem to be because you are including two different versions of winsock. You should probably stick to the atlmfc one and not include the platformsdk version. The platformsdk version seems to be included first... maybe reversing the order might help. However warnings usually aren't fatal (and can be common when compiling old programs or programs written by programmers who don't care about warnings) so don't worry about them unless they cause the program to fail to run once you get rid of all of the errors.

Hi,
My application working fine in the dev environment.But in the testing /production environment
it is not working because that environment has only
windows server 2003
IIS
I have prepared a MSI which will automatically install .net2.0 framework
In my application I have Used some microsoft VC++ dll's also along with .net dll's.
Now Iam getting "RUNTime Error" pop-up screen message as below
" The Application has been terminated in an Unusual Way"
On googling i came to know that some dll's like msvcrt.dll of windows server 2003 has to be changed...But Iam not pretty sure about it..
In Production/test environment there is only framework installed ,but there is no visual studio installed on it.may be due that this error may occur...
So kindly post your suggestions and views to help me
