hi
i need to write a simulation program for a x number of a device. the real device has an SNMP agent on it which i need to simulate.
ive looked into snmp4j and the javax.management lib for snmp but i'm struggling to create anything close to what i need. As far as i can work out i need to set up an SNMP server with a custom mib to respond with the the data for my simulated device. however trying to immpliment this is proving to be a headache.
can any one help with the snmp server or custom MIB?
thanks

Hi! I have some questions concerning mobile phones. When I build a simple project like "Hello World" and upload it on a mobile phone, will it display "Hello World" when I run it? The other question is how can I make the mobile phone's camera flash light (the phone is Nokia N95) and become a torch? (in Google all that came up when I searched for the torch was how to make the screen white)
Still learning...

You can do all of these things and more with Java, but the secret is you can only do them after you learn to program a bit!
But, yes, all of them are possible. I didn't see a question that doesn't involve coding applications for you in there though..

You might want to Google on "flashlight" instead. Good luck.

If you are familiar with C and C++ and understand "objects", it is no more difficult than C++, maybe a bit easier. I suggest you go to "http://java.sun.com" and see the wealth of information available.

java is very difficult means complex to implemnet. to stwick from c++ lanuage to java many diffculties. in c++ inteface are easy to implemnet but in java diffcutl to select your layout

You're entitled to your opinion. Maybe it's just me, but I found Java much easier than C++. If you read the book "Core Java, Vol I (or Vol II)" I think it is explained better than any other software language book I've ever read.

If you have trouble moving from C++ to Java, then you didn't use C++ correctly.
If you are learning either one for the first time, Java is about 2x easier.
Very recent Java has introduced generics, which is a massive headache. But guess what? C++ already had them, and they aren't any easier there.
And "to select your layout"? If you are talking about GUI design, that depends entirely on what you are doing and what tools you are using.
If you are using Eclipse, you may have trouble designing GUIs. NetBeans IDE does them every bit as easily as MS Visual Studio does C++ GUIs.
Personally, using SpringLayout, I can code GUIs by hand in Java and they are a lot simpler to read.

Which area you are facing problem? Connecting to MySQL from JAVA? Inserting files into database? Or creating a program that runs daily at 8.00AM?
Scheduling can be done easily by using windows scheduler. You create your application which connects to DB and do required actions. Schedule it using windows scheduler.

You misunderstood the concept of this site. People here will not give code. What idea, other than what I said, you are asking for?

Greetings, first post here and a beginner programmer.
In my Intro to Java class we recently had this for an assignment:
import java.util.Scanner;<br />
public class Age {<br />
<br />
public static void main(String[] args) {<br />
int birthYear;<br />
int currentYear; <br />
int age;<br />
Scanner inputObject = new Scanner(System.in);<br />
<br />
System.out.print("Enter the year of your birth ");<br />
birthYear = inputObject.nextInt();<br />
<br />
System.out.print("Enter the year for which you wish to know your age ");<br />
currentYear = inputObject.nextInt(); <br />
age = currentYear - birthYear;<br />
<br />
System.out.println("You are " + age + " Years Old"); <br />
System.out.println("You are " + age*12 + " Months Old"); <br />
System.out.println("You are " + age*365 + " Days Old");<br />
}<br />
}
"You are to take the above program and rewrite it to use a age class object to handle the calculation of the person’s age and the displaying of the results."
I was thinkin that I could declare a few more int variables -ageYear, ageMonths, ageDays- and then do some calculations, similar to the "age = currentYear - birthYear" for ageYear, ageMonths, and ageDays. then do some printlns like "You are " + ageMonths + " Months Old"
If any one could give me some insight I would greatly appreciate it as im new to programming and pretty lost.
Thanks!

This looks like homework, and all you've provided is the material set - you've not included any code you have written yourself.
You'll find there are lots of people here prepared to help with homework, but one thing we wont do is do it for you! That would totally defeat the purpose.
So Ill give you a few things to consider.
1) Calculating age is not quite as simple as currentYear - birthYear. You may or may not have passed your birthday this year, which would vary the result by 1 year.
2) If you calculate age in days, this is easy enough to convery to months and/or years. Its a very simple formula.
(roughly)
ageInMonths = (ageInDays/365)*12
ageInYears = ageInDays/365

I believe you have to use MySQL connector for JDBC[^].

What is the problem in that? MySql listens on port 3306 by default. If MySQL is running in your local, you access it by specifiying the server name as localhost and your user name and password. Check the proper connection string format.

Go to "http://java.sun.com" and look through their APIs to help you find the right API for your application. Once you do that, then you'll have the knowledge to determine if a particular book is right for you. Also, there are Java Tutorials for all their API's I believe. Start there.

I need help with 3 java programming assignments how do I get help with them?
Optional Information:
OS: Mac OS X; Browser: Firefox
Already Tried:
Code # 1
Write the program in Java (with a graphical user interface) and have it calculate and display the mortgage payment amount from user input of the amount of the mortgage and the user's selection from a menu of available mortgage loans:
- 7 years at 5.35%
- 15 years at 5.5%
- 30 years at 5.75%
Use an array for the mortgage data for the different loans. Display the mortgage payment amount followed by the loan balance and interest paid for each payment over the term of the loan. Allow the user to loop back and enter a new amount and make a new selection or quit. Please insert comments in the program to document the program.
Code # 2
Write the program in Java (with a graphical user interface) so that it will allow the user to select which way they want to calculate a mortgage: by input of the amount of the mortgage, the term of the mortgage, and the interest rate of the mortgage payment or by input of the amount of a mortgage and then select from a menu of mortgage loans:
- 7 year at 5.35%
- 15 year at 5.5 %
- 30 year at 5.75%
In either case, display the mortgage payment amount and then, list the loan balance and interest paid for each payment over the term of the loan. Allow the user to loop back and enter a new amount and make a new selection, or quit. Insert comments in the program to document the program.
Code # 3
Write the program in Java (with a graphical user interface) and have it calculate and display the mortgage payment amount from user input of the amount of the mortgage and the user's selection from a menu of available mortgage loans:
- 7 years at 5.35%
- 15 years at 5.5%
- 30 years at 5.75%
Use an array for the mortgage data for the different loans. Read the interest rates to fill the array from a sequential file. Display the mortgage payment amount followed by the loan balance and interest paid for each payment over the term of the loan. Add graphics in the form of a chart. Allow the user to loop back and enter a new amount and make a n/p>

First, you need to show some code that you have tried and need help with. No one is going to program your homework for you. Are you able to use an IDE like NetBeans to create your GUI, or are you just supposed to code the GUI in text files?
I would suggest that if you really want some EXCELLENT help, I would buy the following book:
Core Java 2, Volume 1, Fundamentals.
You can purchase this book online (recommend "bookpool.com") or through bookstores like Barnes and Noble. Make sure you get the latest (Seventh) Edition.
There are great examples for coding items exactly like you need in this book if you are only using text files to create your GUI program.

Hi,
I am working on a struts application where we are generating a newsletter. Now we need to email this newsletter to subscribers. I thought of doing it using JavaMail class, but from what i know is that it will require some details of an SMTP server to send out the email. Now the hurdle is that I do not have access to the SMTP server of my company.
So is there a way where I can bypass this SMTP server details?? I want to simply trigger my outlook express account and automatically upload the newletter in the body of this email(not as an attachment). After this I can put the recipient address manually and send this email. This way I do not require the SMPT server details.
Is there a way to do this?? Is it possible to do it using JMS or JSF??
