Is there a way to change the default (preferred)audio devices on Windows NT/2000/XP from an application?

In other words, how can I accomplish the same thing from my application as when I change the Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimedia -> Audio -> Preferred Playback/Record Device settings?

I'm having a problem with my animation control. I'm loading a 175 Kb AVI file on my WM_INITDIALOG routine, and I immediately start playing it. However, sometimes when I go to run the software, the AVI takes a while to start playing, so nothing shows on the screen for a couple of seconds. Do I need to wait for the load and/or play routines to complete successfuly before continuing? If so, how would I accomplish that...the WaitForSingleObject routine?

Or is there something else that needs to be done, such as placing the first frame image on the dialog for x number of seconds, then showing and starting the video after x amount of time has passed.

In the new PocketPC 2002 system the background of my dialogs are white and not gray like in the old PocketPC system.

So, how can I change the background color of my dialogs on the PocketPC 2002 system to gray?

I need this, because I use the CCeButtonST v1.2 buttons from Davide Calabro (http://www.codeproject.com/ce/ccebuttonst.asp) and they look not very good on a white background!

(I am working with embedded Visual C++ 3.0 + PocketPC 2002 + MFC)

I am looking for the APIs which can show all shared files of a computer in a LAN. And how can I get all the computers' names connected to LAN. ( like LANster- a software for searching in LAN).

I have tried the function : NetShareEnum, but it only showed all the directories that a computer shares. But I am looking for the functions that showed all the shared files.

Couldn't you just list the files in each of those directories then?

That's why I ramble so much. If you're short and quotable, there's a much greater danger of ending up in a sig.

I have made a mistake here. I haven't used the function NetShareEnum to show all the shared directories of a computer. I used the code in MSDN but don't noticed that it only listed all the shared foders of my computer.;P

Of course, if we know the directory, we can find all the files it contains.

Can the function NetShareEnum list all the shared directories of a computer? Or we must use other functions?

Hi.
I'm considering writting a program with output of the times that other programs append files. Is there an easy way of doing this in c++?
I thought that I could start a thread that accesses all of the files and constantly checks there accessability, whether they're being shared etc.

However I'm not sure about the priority the thread would need, so is there a list stored someone in windows of what files are open or closed, and if so how could i access this list? Some sort of file management system as i know very little about any of this.

NT offers special functions for monitoring folders and files, win2k should be the same but i never try.
for other OS, u have to use thread to implement ur task.

Hi all,

Is there a way to include bitmaps, cursors and icons into my application without using an .rc file and the resource compiler? Something like a library that can read #include()-able .xpm files and convert them to icons/cursors etc at will.
The reason for this is as follows: I'm writing a component that will be used by other departments here. It's written as a static library, but now in order to use it, people have to include stuff in View->Resource Includes (in VC6 that is) and the VC ide is not very compatible with having your resource.h and .rc file in non-standard places (we have headers and implementation files in separate, unrelated directories, and the resource.h file and .rc file have to be with the headers to be #include()-able)
I thought if I could just get rid of the .rc file and have another way to include resources into my project, that would save me a lot of hairpulling.

if u want to distribute ur app in a single exe file, u have to add all to resource.
otherwise why don't dynamically load from files (i.e. my.bmp)? but in MFC, i think u have to have one or two icons and menus in resource, otherwise u have much more extra things to do.

I could indeed load the resources dynamically, but that would mean that I'd have to distribute all these images & cursors etc as separate files, which I'm trying to avoid.
The main application (the one that will be using my component) does use a resource file, like you say, for the menu and so on. I was trying to get my component to not have to use a resource, to make it easier to use for others.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my question!

I dont know any (free) lib/tools. Perhaps you need to make your own resource compiler, to create object file(s) from your resource files and access them in your app.

It is a good idea indeed, but I'm afraid that it would take me more time than my boss would allow me to spend on it Smile | :)

well, a very simple idea is to polute global namespace! Smile | :)

I need a portable solution for using resources (linked in my executable) in my tiny game engine... so here is my idea:

Your "resource compiler" takes files and create (hughe) const unsigned char[] arrays of it. The arrays will be written into one big cpp file. Compile to an object file, link it with your app and write a simple wrapper class to access the data. The wrapper can look identical to the MFC solution (if you need).

I think it doesnt take much time.... however I'm busy and have done it yet.
