just got another free rep boost, mostly Debator.
I think the Debator color scheme will need adjusting, unless CP wants hundreds of platinum babblers...
|
|
|
|
|
I think based on the new Rep FAQ, we will have different membership status for different Rep!
In that format, might be Platinum debator won't harm much. There should be some place where one can eye to be a platinum one
Though i am not sure will there be cumulative Membership status or not! It should be.
Also, the cumulative calculation should not be equal for each rep. Weightage distribution should be there for different types.

I've been getting RSS updates using Windows Live Mail running on Windows 7 since October but haven't received anything new since February 17th. Other than the monthly Windows updates and installation of Eclipse nothing else of significance has changed. Has anybody else experienced this?

I believe you! I clicked on it earlier today with Firefox and saw all the updates. But just now I opened the link with IE8 and got this message:
"Internet Explorer was unable to update this feed and will try again later."
The last article shown is "VBA Code Tools" posted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 10:14:00 AM.
I'm sure it's something on my end but I don't have a freaking clue. Argh!

just went and compared some revisions of John's latest tip; it has revisions 1, 2, 3, and latest.
Here are a few scenarios and the outcome:
A) checked 1 and 2: shows comparison of 1 and 2
all is well
B) checked 3 only: shows comparison of 3 and latest
OK, nice even
C) checked latest only: shows comparison of latest and latest
doesn't make much sense, does it?
D) checked nothing: got an in-page sentence "You need to select two different revisions for a comparison "
not true; see B) and C)
and we can't select two identical revisions, can we?
E) checked 1 and 2 and 3: got a nice little MessageBox stating "A maximum of 2 revisions can be compared."
hamster humor?
suggestion:
- check the latest revision by default
- always require exactly two checks
- use a single error message "exactly two revisions need to be checked for comparison".

Good suggestions - thanks!

there is an alternative, more difficult to implement, but easier still for the user:
automate the checkboxes, so they remember the order in which they get checked.
now start with everything unchecked, then check latest but one, then check latest.
From now on, whenever the user checks another one, uncheck the oldest one checked, so there are two checked all the time. Hence no need to have any error message.
Since such checkboxes are special (they don't allow unchecking), one might select a different control, maybe just a button and an indication which ones are "checked".

Great idea. I'll add it to the list!

Hi, I wonder when the results of VS2010 addin competition is going to be declared.
As stated in the Page, I thought it will be declared by 31st of January. Even it is March, and no declaration of winners are there.
Is prizes for all those months be declared by the end of March ?

Ok sure. But here one suggestion, you can display a message like "Reputation graph Recalculating" in the graph, till you finish the recalculation.I guess it's not an expensive process. thanks chris

That's not really reasonable. If they did that, the whole site would be peppered with "hold on, we're recalculating" messages. The site is a livinhg thing and updates are happening on a continuous basis (most of the time, without us being any the wiser)..45 ACP - because shooting twice is just silly ----- "Why don't you tie a kerosene-soaked rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt, 1997 ----- "The staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - J. Jystad, 2001

I don't think he meant to show the message all over the site.
Might be just on the Reputation chart, (after loading icon)...a message is shown if such thing is happening. Few might know and understand but new people might report on continuous basis that something is wrong! (but only if this happens quite often! which i think won't! ) ... so aal izz well

My point is, every time CP people will be post the messages(Reputation chart bug) in "Site Bugs / Suggestions" like me while recalculation. Till date i have seen the recalculation 4 times. so that's why i was posted that suggestion. thanks john.

maybe the better suggestion is to keep the existing data alive until the new data is available, then replace old by new in a snap. That may mean creating new tables in the database, then rename some.
