I'm not sure I agree with the editing restrictions. It looks like it's been made almost impossible to edit anything that isn't yours, regardless of your current membership status.
So how many people *can* edit? Maybe a half dozen?
With the seeming inability of most people to properly format their messages, we're going to be inundated with impossible to read questions until one of the Golden Six decides they want to edit something themselves.
I noticed I can't edit/delete them anymore either.
So what's the magic number that gives us the power back? Is it a total reputation score (which I think it *should* be)? Is it a certain score on a specific set of categories? Is it the phase of the moon at the time you're reading the question?.45 ACP - because shooting twice is just silly ----- "Why don't you tie a kerosene-soaked rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt, 1997 ----- "The staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - J. John,
Look at the yellow panel at the top of the Rep Faq, it states;
The current requirements are that members must be Silver or above to edit Quick Answers or Questions.
Other items are editable depending on what edit restriction the author specified.

Yes Silver or above to edit Quick Answers or Questions, is that all categories silver or only one?

Yeah, I saw that, but you'd think that with over over nine years of membership, over 96,000 rep points (almost 20,000 of those since the 01/01), 43 articles, 11 tips, and 18,000 messages, a user (me) would have some special considerations, but since our singular member status levels went the way of the dodo, I'm just an ordinary Joe like pretty much everyone else here. There's no such thing as "rare air" here anymore, and that doesn't inspire continued extra-effort in terms of participation.
Like I said, I'm hoping this is just an unintended side-effect.
EDIT ============
Silver in what exactly? I'm platinum in four of the seven categories, and I can't edit/delete? Besides that, if I can't edit, how can I increase my editor points?.45 ACP - because shooting twice is just silly ----- "Why don't you tie a kerosene-soaked rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt, 1997 ----- "The staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - J. As I pick myself up of the floor after bowing down before such greatness, I am sure Chris and his team will sort it out.
I dare say it is one of those "Toronto, we have a problem" moments.
It will all come out in the wash.

I agree, as I just posted to Dave above if it is say silver and above for all categories how do you get your editor category up to silver if you can't edit questions.
If you look at the organiser category it's "Organises and retags content" how does someone retag content if you can't edit?
It may be that only CG can edit questions now.

This was exactly what i was also saying. At times, we format the questions and make them readable in order to answer them. Now, we are unable to do that
Might be, people having Authority of more than silver should also be given power to edit/improve the questions. What say?

I think I have to make more edits on my posts to improve my editor reputation and thus gain the power back. Computer programming is an extraordinarily precise activity, be precise.

I have never made a complaint about what has been posted, far from it I believe generally that all is fair game if you are prepared to back-up or argue a case, but this is reprehensible and needs actioning.
CSS made an unfounded and libellous accusation against CG, I found it offensive and beyond the pale.
In the Back Room CSS accuses CG of being a paedophile, this site, by publishing this, (albeit unknowingly as it was posted like any other post by a member), could be opening itself to legal proceedings.
I am not part of the CG fan club, I respect him, sure, and agree with many things, but we have differences of opinion on many matters, however to have this accusation made is appalling.
As for CSS, never has the description 'Member' been more apposite.
For the good of the site it should be pulled, and CSS should face some form of censure for this allegation.
That Christian has not made hay regarding this is a testament to his character, and one that I applaud, but had the accusation been made by me I would be suing him so fast his feet wouldn't touch!
I hope you will address this swiftly.------------------------------------
I will never again mention that I was the poster of the One Millionth Lounge Post, nor that it was complete drivel. Dalek Dave

If you read the Back Room regularly you'll see a lot of this sort of thing. CSS seems to do it every so often when his arguments are being knocked down by everyone, but he saves his greatest insults for Christian. Christian seems happy to live with this, and, as moderator of the Back Room, he has the power to remove any posts that he deems offensive. txtspeak is the realm of 9 year old children, not developers. The thing is, who really cares what CSS says?

1-to-5 votes and up/down votes (on articles, on messages) used to get a weight depending on voter status (bronze=1, silver=2, gold=4, platinum=?). See "How are ratings calculated?" here[^].
Q1. Now overall status is gone, how will votes be weighed?
Q2. The latest recalculation has significantly (some 20%) increased Author, Authority, and Debator totals for several people. What happened?
|
|
|
|
|
Also, is there any overall 'Membership' status? or What would be the driving status anywhere for weightage?
There must be a good difference between weigthage of a Platinum Enquirer & Platinum Authority, right? Both are platinum status but roles are at extreme opposite ends. Is that considered?modified on Saturday, March 13, 2010 1:26 AM

Weighting is based on the reputation type you are voting for. Eg. If you are voting for an article then the weighting depends on your Author status. The better an author you are, the more your vote counts. Same for forum messsages. cheers,

wanted to know: What role does a Enquirer reputation play?
Infact, we have quite a few who has negative points with them!
