In Solution Explorer, expand the references node on the project this file is in. You'll see that certain references are marked as not being valid (they have a yellow icon on them). This tells you that the project cannot find the references specified. My suspicion here is that this is a Silverlight 3 project and you don't have the Silverlight Toolkit installed.

Hi,
I have now added the silverlight 4 toolkit.
Added two dlls into t he references:
1- System.Windows.controls.data.dll
2- System.Windows.controls.data.toolkit.dll
The error when compiling is:
The type or namespace name 'DataForm' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Any thought splease?
Thanks

I'm guess it's because they solved the problem but didn't share it with the community. It can be frustrating when you read a thread which describes the exact problem you are having only to read the last post, "Problem solved"

I'm have another problem which i can not solve alone, concerning printing pages in Silverligh 4.
I saw some articles about printing, i tried as described and so far is ok.
I try to describe the scenario:
i have 2 classes "PageToPrint.xaml" and "PrintingControl.cs". First contain elements to print while the second is a C# calss is holding code to print the document. I pass to PrintingControl.cs the main grid, "LayoutRoot" of PageToPrint.xaml.
In "printingControl.cs" i'm doing this : args.PageVisual = LayoutRoot; . but in this way the content of the printed document isn't centered but in left-top corner. So i want to customize a bit my document, centring it and setting some margin. Then i tried to create a Border control, in wich i try to add the "LayouRoot" as follow : borderControl.Child = LayoutRoot;
But i'm getting an exception because the "LayoutRoot" already has a Parent property, and i'm unable to add the layoutroot in border(in order to have a custom print)
How can i solve this issue??
thanks a lot

Hi,
If it is simple application, you need to copy the HTML page, Silverlight.js file and the ClientBin folder to your server. You can directly run the HTML page too. If you have some complex application with WCF services, host those services somewhere in IIS. Now publish the Silverlight web project and host them in IIS. Hosting silverlight application in IIS is as simple as hosting normal website.
As you are using Windows Server 2003, you don't have to set any MIME types. If you are facing any issues after hosting, check for the MIME types in IIS and add them manually. Generally it is not require.
Let me know.

As it's Windows Server 2003, you can't use IIS 7. The version of IIS is unimportant in this case - the important thing is the .NET framework and Silverlight framework version.

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. As Pete told, your deployment will not depend on IIS version as such. Yes, you have to host all the WCF services in your IIS. Let me know, if you have any issue while deploying it.

Ok Thanks to all. Installing completed succesfully.

You are right. Silverlight applications are not 'installed' but deployed.
See here[^].
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

Apologies. My 'That is right' was not meant for the fact that you need to learn English but rather for your question 'In thi case, i think, the propper word is "deploy" the application not "install", right??'.
Silverlight applications are not 'installed' but rather 'deployed' unless they are intended to run out of browser.
Apologies again for any confusion.

Many programming words are not part of normal English. Don't worry to much about the way English works. We understand and you are already good. You can learn programming now and English later.

Hi,
I am using Sgen tool to create my own Serializer class. I have a silverlight class library (4.0) and using Sgen tool I am creating my Serilizer class. When I add the dll as a reference to my silverlight class library, it gives an error "You can't add a reference to the dll as it was not build against Silverlight runtime."
The command i used to create the dll is :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Bin\NETF
/compiler:/keyfile:"C:\dll\abc.snk" /a:"C:\dll\sample.dll"
Thanks

Hi,
I have been battliing with an issue with wcf and wonder if anyone can solve my issue.
Many thanks
In a silverlight apllication, I created a wcf service under the host i.e. (projectname.web) project. Then from the silverlight application which holds all the .xaml pages, I reference the wcf and all works fine (The wcf is calle dfrom the .xaml and data is retrieved).
Problem is arised only when I try to separate the wcf service from the webhost i.e. (projectname.web). So I created a separate wcf service application project and then tried to call the service from the .xaml project.
The error I get is in references.cs
The error message is: The remote server returned an error: NotFound.
and the code which causes the error is:
public Samples.ProductServiceHost.Product EndGetProduct(System.IAsyncResult result) {
object[] _args = new object[0];
Samples.ProductServiceHost.Product _result = ((Samples.ProductServiceHost.Product)(base.EndInvoke("GetProduct", _args, result)));
return _result;
}
I have also added the crossdomain.xml to the wcf service application project.
I wonder if the error is to do with the web.config.
This is what the web.config looks like in the wcf service application:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" />
</system.web>
<system.serviceModel>
<services>
<service behaviorConfiguration="Samples.Services.ServiceBehavior"
name="Samples.Services.ProductService">
<endpoint address=""
binding="basicHttpBinding"
contract="Samples.Services.IProductService">
<identity>
<dns value="localhost"/>
</identity>
</endpoint>
<endpoint address="mex"
binding="mexHttpBinding"
contract="IMetadataExchange"/>
</service>
</services>
<behaviors>
<serviceBehaviors>
<behavior name="Samples.Services.ServiceBehavior">
<!-- To avoid disclosing metadata information, set the value below to false and remove the metadata endpoint above before deployment -->
<serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/>
<!-- To receive exception details in faults for debugging purposes, set the value below to true. Set to false before deployment to avoid disclosing exception information -->
<serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false"/>
</behavior>
</serviceBehaviors>
</behaviors>
</system.serviceModel>
<system.webServer>
<modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"/>
</system.webServer>
</configuration>

Having had this error 1000s of times I can confidant you can interpret the error as something went wrong on the server side . This is what we have done (recently)
Move you WCF out to another solution, start it up and leave it running. Now start the host application in a second instance of VS. This should allow you to debug the service.

Hi,
I have a java menu on the webpage that is partially hidden from the silverlight control that i have placed below.
Is there a way to render the menu above the SL content?
|
|
|
|
|
As the SL control works inside a webpage, it should simply be a matter of setting the Z-order. Basically, host your menu in a div with a higher z-order than the div you are hosting your SL page in. I haven't tried it, but the theory is sound.
