It would certainly help you answer my questions that have gone off the first page
I dont think its a bad idea - as long as there is a limit, otherwise they will be posts from months ago appearing.

This probably wouldn't need a seperate forum - how about a "show unanswered posts" button at the top of each forum, that'd just list the unanswered posts

Who would go and click the 'show unanswered posts'??
My question is... why should there be a buttin for the users. May be a button for the ADMIN/Moderator is OK..

A helpful person who wants to help out people having problems.
That's like asking "Who would go and reply with an answer to someone's post??"

Hmmm my words would tend to mean like that... but actually I didnt mean it. I meant like... that 'button' would be more useful for the admin/moderator who can finally go for the 'CP contest', with the unanswered questions!!
Isnt this a good idea

How about a little help text or link what 1-5 rating means, I already forgot it. I forget every time if 1 or 5 means 'best'.... I fear I downrated someone by accident... not just once
Hope it helps, Moak

I suggest adding this to the message rating

I think it would be a better system if you couldn't vote on messages that are direct replies to one of your own messages.
It is very tempting to give a low score to somebody who replies to you, if the view is contrary to your own view. (I should know after the recent Bush oil threads).
I know Slashdot won't allow you to moderate a message in a discussion that you've taken part in but that is probably too much overkill for CodeProject.

Chris,
would it be possible to put the discussion board selection combo that you have for the lounge on the CP main page as currently to get to the VC/other boards I have to go "Message Boards" and then select one, a 1 step approach would be nice.

Ah, see you are doing it wrong. I visit the lounge first and then go and look for problems to solve or to ask questions

I would like to suggest that people not be allowed to post messages in the forums *at all* unless they're registered.

The critiera is right here, couldn't you just transform this
1-4 articles posted = Bronze. 5-14 articles = Silver. 15-24 articles = Gold. 25+ articles = Platinum. Each 500 messages posted adds one level, and if a user has posted a message then each year of membership adds 1 level. Bonus levels not valid for Gold members. Bronze is awarded at the beginning of the first 500 messages posted instead of the end.
into a bunch of conditional statements to make 'Status' realtime

The news feed that CP is using on the home page is becoming increasingly cluttered with crud items.
If news from sites like pcuser.com could be removed I think it would be more appropriate to a development community.
Stuff like "How do I make a macro in Excel?" and "What is a byte?" is hardly newsworthy in the development community?
I know the Admin here is busy getting a tan presently, but maybe it can be done next year.

Remember the days when news items about Java (the island) or Java (the coffee) would show up there?

From the very recent CP homepage (as of today 03 Jan 2003):
Technology News
Updated 11:15 13 Dec 2002
That does not qualify as "News", so please lets get rid of it.

(First let me say sorry Chris for having this appear in your inbox )
You can spank me for cross-posting if you like, but I know some CPians have asked for keyboard shortcuts for the buttons in the posting page (like link, pre, code, etc.). I've added this feature to the SearchBar, so if you're interested please see this message in the Testing forum. There are only 3 so far, but I'd like to get some feedback on whether folks like this feature and which buttons should have shortcuts. (I figure everything from pre on would be worthwhile having a shortcut for.)
