Chris Maunder wrote: Just to confirm: you click to edit the article, and whether you make changes or not, when you hit submit it throws an error?
Here is what I tried:
- I only added a small bit of text to the article body (a paragraph, and an ol with one li in it) - I got the error
- I only changed the title to "ZZZZZ" without changing anything else. - I got the error
I went in a third time to try just re-submitting with no change, but the article was deleted (not sure how) but given 1&2 it looks likely that no change would give the error. Not the same thing as testing it though
Chris Maunder wrote: BTW, it's marked as deleted. Do you want me to undelete it?
Please (see the primal scream below)...

I found the issue with your article (and 27 other articles) that would have caused this error. It all goes back to a change we made a couple of months ago while we transitioned over to a new file system and there was a very brief gap in which a few articles became a little confused.

Cool. Shall we try again?

Please do, and let me know how it goes.

Thanks for undeleting the article, I drafted in Word but it took a good while to transfer to HTML!

In the online HTML editor there is a button that looks like <> in a circle with a line through it. Just paste your word doc into the editor, click this button, and a lot of the grunt work in converting from Word to HTML is done.

The article now has just disappeared. It couldn't be so bad that it merits deletion before being published, surely?
I thought this merited its own post.

Michael Martin's account has been closed. While his posts have been fruity of language, nothing that he posted was spam, trollish or abusive.

He came back, but now he has been banned again. Honestly, it's like a bloody revolving door.

His colourful message is still there so members are kindly sticking daggers into it. In tomorrow's update that system will be unplugged. For now I've restored it. Again.

I saw this Spam message[^], how to report the user?
And do we still need the anonymous posts option? Yes I can post message that way, check this Clickety[^]
I checked the other forums but I can post anonymous posts only in Get-Togethers[^] forum. Any reason or bug?

The system allows it, and it was enabled for that forum. I've disabled it.

It works fine here:
<pre> using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(strConnect))
</pre>
I can encode or not as I want:
using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(strConnect))
But in Q&A it always posts as:
<pre lang="xml"><pre> using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(strConnect))
</pre></pre>
With no choice as to how to post a formatted fragment.

Which browser? On pasting it's meant (and does for me) show the paste options to the right (and outside of) the text window. Having it popup and cover the text was annoying me.
Try Ctrl-F5. It could be a cached stylesheet issue

Sorry, should have thought of that: Chrome 16.0.912.77
Yes, it was annoying over the text, but now it's gone completely.
I just tried it with IE 9.0.8112.16421 and it didn't show either - just HTML encoded without adding the pre/xml tags. It shows here: Over the top of the Smileys - which makes me think that may be the problem. Q&A doesn't have the Smiley box...
(And why the f'in heck can't you copy-n-paste the version from the IE about box? Not your problem, just another MS stupid move)
