Having Visual C++ dsp file you can build it by such way:
msdev MyProject.dsp /MAKE "MyProject - Win32 Debug"
Replace MyProject with your project name. Change Debug to Release if necessary. Try to play with parameters, I think adding parameter ALL makes Rebuild All.

If I try and create a a CInternetSession object I need to specify my proxy name. When I then call GetHttpConnection() on the session object, I have to specify a username and password to authenticate with my proxy server. Unfortunately, my proxy server also requires a domain name. Anyone know how to do this?
I did think the following format would work but it doesn't:
username = mydomain\myusername
password = mypassword

Did you ever get an answer to your question? I'm trying to use CInternetSession going through a proxy, but I'm getting 404 - file not found errors. The part I can't figure out is where/when do I tell the proxy server my username and password. When I browse with IE, the browser pops up a user/password dialog as soon as I try to access a page on the internet. When I use the CInternetSession constructor I specify the proxy server, but where do I specify proxy user and password. Is the constructor supposed to pop up the dialog automatically?
Thanks for any help.

Try this:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/phykell/Software/GetResponse.cpp
It's Win32 rather than MFC but it may help you.
Where you need to specify the domain of the user, simply set the username option as follows:
domain\username

I need test printer status in my program. (Specialy HP LJ 1200). Testing MSDN topic "HOWTO: Get the Status of a Printer and a Print Job" I ewerytimes get status 0 - printer redy. This is not function for me (or I have an error in it).
Now is HP offering utility "Printer Status/Alerts and Internet enabled supplies ordering for Direct Connect" lj1116en.exe whitch can read printer status, alert me when is printer open, or out of paper, but I need to do in my aplication!
I try find any API or example but no sucesfull.
Can anybody help me?
Thank Mol

The spooler only knows of the existence of an error when one or more jobs are in the queue.
Try the MS code when a job has failed.
If you want an alert when a printer job fails you need to isntall a FindFirstPrinterChangeNotification/WaitForSingleObject/FindNextPrinterChangeNotification loop as per the examples on http://www.merrioncomputing.com/Programming/index.htm

I try PrintWatchServer.exe and Project1.exe and catch no error. You see it to work?

API assume suport of printer driver, but printers drivers are writen without this suport (becouse LPT was only output port). LJ 1200 has some it support! Original HP program works! Is question if it support for API (improbable) or has own API (as some industrial Epson). On HP pages no informations about it. Where find help?
|
|
|
|

The API calls used are provided by the spooler (typically winspool.drv, provided by Microsoft) and not the printer driver. Therefore any printer which has spooling set up - which is usual - should respond to the FindFirstPrinterChangeNotification/FindnextPrinterChgangeNotification system.
If you open the printer from control panel do you see a list of jobs and their status? This is done with these same API calls.

Hello,
I'm stucked with my program's memory leaks... (I can't find, after searching intensively for them, why/where there is still one leak (well, one at least))...
I was wondering which one of the tools that are intended to find out those leaks should I use.
Thank you in advance for your advice...

BoundsChecker - pretty good for catching most of the errors, but have problem with COM servers in instrumented builds (generates memory exceptions).
Rational Purify - very good, but might significantly slow down the program.

Hello,
first of all let me thank you for your answer...
QUESTION1:
AlexO wrote:

It will only slow down my program when my program will be compiled/linked and the Rational Purify program will be running, isn't it?
NOTE:
I've not seen that program, I've just installed the demo version of the BoundsChecker program and I've been able to see that I can start/stop the BoundsCehecker working... then my question is: can I enable/disbale the rational purify work?
Thank you in advance...
QUESTION2:
From your point of view Rational Purify would be a better tool than BoundsChecker?
Thank you in advance.

The best tool I know of is Purify - though I haven't tried the latest (at USD $750).

$750!
I will have to work hard to convince the company manager...
Could you explain (summarizing) why do you believe that Purify is the best one?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I need to have a database replicated in several laptops, where they are going to work without connection... What they want to do is to synchronize the database each X days ( glups )
I thought that... ok... this thing is always bad, but at least I could use GUIDS for the primary keys of each record in order to avoid collisions, it's that a good idea ? How this affect to the performance of the database ?
Thanks in advance, greetings
Braulio

I always use a UUID for my primary keys, either generated by the SQL @Identity value; Or on Oracle/ Access I use UuidToString to generate me a UUID.
I've never seen it affect the performance of the database.

Sorry,
One more question, does not have Ms Access a built in type that can hold GUID or UUID ? SQL Server yes isn't ?
thanks

It tend to use a text/varchar based field. I've found that is makes it easier for compatability across databases. I can't remember off the top of my head the length but it was something near 40.
