Because, CODING IS A DRUG ITSELF!!! %)

I used to smoke weed with a vengeance. The code I wrote back then never was finished nor are the pile of songs on my hard drive that were just cool riffs dude for a night.
I quit smokin weed but now it;s legal in my state so hmmmmmmmm............

I take two benadryls each night at 9:00 before 10:00 bedtime so as to sleep good.
Bouts of insomnia are over since I started this.
I learned to stop coding or fixing code after 9:30 as delusions of grandeur being to overtake me as in the morning I can't believe what I was thinking the night before, as the code doesn't work for obvious reasons I did not see at 9:50 the night before.

I've never much for drinking and coding, because I don't have the attention span when drinking, but I have found a lot of useful design notes and ideas left on whiteboards, sticky notes, and digital notebooks from the night before. Basically, plan it drunk, implement it sober. That's how most of my personal projects go.

I don't drink, and I don't write code for production.

I have a friend who is an outstanding developer (probably the best one I know). His guideline was "Code high, debug sober, document drunk."

I may have consumed alcohol, but I have a high tolerance, and by no means was I under its influence.

He knew all the innards of the system, but you never wanted to ask for his assistance after lunch.

So, no coffee (caffiene) or Red Bull drinkers, painkillers, headache tabs, hayfever meds.
They are all 'drugs'....

They are all 'drugs'.... So true.

But they don't have an influence.

Everything has an influence even sub-consciously....
Even taking a sip of water at a particular moment in time has influenced the decisions your mind will take next....you just don't know it

Before taking the mouth too full you may consider that "drugs" has a different meening for non-native English. Drugs and medication is a different thing in German. In German: Drugs un-ambiguously always means illegal stuff. You can assume that many participants in this straw poll have a different view than you on the used terms.
BTW: don't take the poll too serious anyways

I know that, maybe you are taking my response too seriously!
There are 'legal highs' that you could still be under the influence of as well to further muddy the waters....

Alcohol is legal in 90% of the world, and still one of the worst drugs.

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?

I was once in a pub on a Friday evening, and got a call from work so went outside so I could hear better. A couple of seconds later my IT manager walks out, also on the phone (he had been in the other part of the bar, unbeknownst to myself).
We shared a taxi to the office, and sorted out the problem, then back to the pub!

Does one pint at lunchtime count as 'under the influence'? If so, yes, regularly (every Friday and some other times) – pub lunches are used as an informal meeting setting and a social thing here. Otherwise no, though I have written some hobby code when actually drunk (it doesn't usually work well though).
