Thanks for the link. I tried that, though, in C# (using the IHTMLElement def found in mshtml.tlb), and it said it was read-only. I could set a number other style attributes, but not that one.

If you can utilize the IHTMLStyle2 interface, it has a read/write for position.

It works! What I had ended up doing was using style.setAttribute.

I assume you are referring to the elements CSS position attribute.
In that case the simple way is to change the className of the element to a class which has a the position value you want. className comes straight off the element, not part of style

Put the parameter in quotes or escape each space with a backslash (\).

Hey i'm trying to execute a program that is basically located in "C:\EXEFolder" and i'm trying to make a Web Service w/VB.NET to execute that program (inside one of the Web Service's WebMethods) I've tried creating a New System.Diagnostics.Process() and then calling it's Start method, but all i get is an ERROR# 5: Access denied. Obviously it's a permissions thing but I cant figure out what i holding me back from it.
I've tried setting the ASPNET User to Full Control on the file but to no avail.
Any advice, please?
p.s. if i'm in the wrong forum... tell me where to go!!!

You might try grabbing the User Credentials in the web service and see exactly which account is trying to execute the program, it may be different from ASPNET. It is worth a look.

that is true.. but i'm not exactly sure where to look truthfully. i'm running around with my head cut off, because i've given up on the WebService, and just wrote a ActiveX DLL in VB6 to work in ASP - it worked when i ran the webpage on the local machine, but not when i called it from another website. I did set specifically IUSR_ServerName and ASPNET Users to Full Control. Let me explain exactly what i'm doing just for the heck of it:
*I have created a ActiveX DLL, which has a function to create a mailbox using Vircom's VOP Mail (location: 'c:\vopmail')
*When calling CreateEmail('email', 'alias', 'password'), I call the Shell() command which calls a batch file located in 'c:\program files\webservice'
*this batch file basically has 3 command lines:
'c:\vopmail\mailbox.exe -create %1'
'c:\vopmail\mailalias.exe %1 %2'
'c:\vopmail\mailbox.exe -pass %1 %3'
i've set IUSR_ServerName and ASPNET to full control on both of those folders and full control on the mailbox and mailalias EXE's.
any other advise? because the shell() command returns with a return value and nothing is crashing as far as syntax errors in asp go. *sigh* so i'm kinda depressed about the whole thing because i'm not that great (obviously) with permissions. Thanks in advance if you can help me

When I had some problems using authentication in web services I used this simple web method to see exactly what credentials were being used:
[WebMethod]
public string TestMethod()
{
string r="WID:"+WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name+"\r\n";
r=r+"WType:"+WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().AuthenticationType+"\r\n";
r=r+"AUTH:"+WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().IsAuthenticated.ToString()+"\r\n";
return(r);
}
As you can see, it simply builds a string and returns it from the web service. You can of course just pump to to a debug long or set a break at that point.
The very first step I ever use to determine if I even have an authentication problem, is to give the directory that I will use (or whereeve) the user Everyone and assign full permissions. If it still do not work, it usually is some other kind of problem.

In your window_onload(), create a timer with:
<script language=javascript>
var g_iTimerHdl = null;
var g_iTimerValue = 0;
// only 10 secs per question...
var g_TimePerQuestion = 10;
function window_onload() {
g_iTimerHdl = window.setInterval("TimerProc()",1000);
}
function TimerProc() {
g_iTimerValue++;
if (g_iTimerValue > g_TimePerQuestion)
{
window.alert("Time Has Expired, You Lose!");
window.clearInterval(g_iTimerHdl);
window.navigate("LoserPage.html");
}
else
{
// update the countdown...
document.all["TimeDisplaySpan"].value = "" + (g_TimePerQuestion-g_iTimerValue);
}
}
function OnQuestionAnswered() {
// reset timer countdown...
g_iTimerValue = 0;
}

Hello all.
I'm having a little difficulty with Javascript and netscape 4.
What I am trying to achieve is within a drop down list, when other is selected, a Javascript prompt is triggered for precisely what other is.
This is what works in IE.
function getELF()<br />
{<br />
if (document.form.elfTypea.selectedIndex=='2')<br />
{<br />
elfVar = prompt("Please enter the ELF Issue", "Other");<br />
}<br />
else<br />
{<br />
elfVar = document.form.elfTypea.options.value<br />
}<br />
document.form.elfType.value = elfVar;<br />
}
I can't seem to get it right in Netscape
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Julian

I've got it solved now,
Here's the code...
function getELF()<br />
{<br />
var oSelectObject = document.form_two.elf_type1;<br />
var SelectedValue = oSelectObject.options[oSelectObject.selectedIndex].value;<br />
if (SelectedValue == 'Other')<br />
{<br />
SelectedValue = prompt("Please specify the ELF Issue", "Other");<br />
} <br />
<br />
document.form_two.elf_type.value = SelectedValue; <br />
}<br />
<br />
And in the body...
<br />
<td><select tabindex='3' name='elf_type1' onBlur="getELF()"><br />
<option>Select</option><br />
<option value='On/Off button not working'>On/Off button not working</option><br />
<option value='Screen failure'>Screen failure</option><br />
<option value='Phone not charging'>Phone not charging</option><br />
<option value='Keypad problems'>Keypad problems</option><br />
<option value='Software problems'>Software problems</option><br />
<option value='Other'>Other</option><br />
</select></td><br />
</tr><br />
<input type='hidden' name='elf_type' value=''></input>

So I have a frameset with two frames. In one of these frames html I need my vbscript to access the frameset and hide the other frame. How? I mean how to get to the object of the frameset?
|
|
|
|
|
You use the DOM. For instance window.parent.frame2.document will get you the frame named frame2 from another sibling frame. Or you can access the frames from the main window object with just window.frames["framename"]
window.parent is always helpful

Hi guys..
one quick question...
in VBScript...(for web) how can I subsitute the IE icon on the top left corner of my web pages, for a personalized Icon??? Ive seen around, but have no idea how to obtain it.
thanks
Jon

It has nothing to do with VBScript, or any language. You just place an icon file in your web root called favicon.ico basically.
http://www.favicon.com/ has tons on it.

the thing is that favicon changes the icon in the ADDRESS bar...I was refering to the TITLE....way up there on your browser.. I've seen it on a couple of popups but there all blocked up and I have no way of seeing how they're doing it (VBScript, JScript)

Ahhh, ok. I don't know how, or if it can, be done. AFAIAW web-site code is expressly forbidden from touching the browser interface except if the code originates from within an ActiveX or JavaApplet control. God knows I have tried to change print preferences using JavaScript/VBScript and to no avail.
What you might have seen are bordlerless/chromeless windows with simulated title bars.
Also it is possible to change the Internet Explorer icon using the Group Policy Editor on a domain, but that only affects IE browsers used by users within the domain, not visitors to your website.
So in short I don't know and I don't think you can with client-side script. Try ActiveX or a JavaApplet though.

Hi,
I've been thinking about making a multicast mp3 player so I can get to my sizable collection of tunes over the web, create playlists etc and share the stream with friends (hence the multicast).
My criteria is that it has to be able to edit the tags, create playlists by searching the tag values and control who has access all through a secure admin webpage. An option to download a lightweight mp3 client(poss activeX?) would be a bonus. The platform is Win2000 with .Net Frmwrk 1.1
Is there anything freely available already to save me reinventing the wheel?
Selah.
