A stupid question but where can I find the timeline view for the followed items?

The homepage! (Click the "Following" tab under "Filter articles, news and messages")

Feeling really stupid but I'm not sure which tab you're referring to...

Edit:
It looks like the Following tab is automatically selected so that's why I didn't notice it. But if it's selected should I see recent posts from Lounge which I'm following?

don't feel stupid. If something doesn't make sense it's our fault.
Look at the top right of the homepage for discusssions. That should include Lounge stuff

Thanks! Now I got it...
Works like a charm. However if someone follows an active member like OG the space reserved for discussions may run out quickly

That's why there's a "more" button

When navigating to Lounge (which I follow) the button always shows "Follow" when go to the page. After one or two refreshes the button changes to "Unfollow". I've noticed similar behaviour also with other forums.
Also, at the moment I can't see Lounge in "Items I follow".

Could you try again. We were having some network issues that seem to have resolved themselves.
Please reply with your success/failure to follow something.

Thanks for the answer. The problem looks network or performance related but still exists.
I started to follow you and went to "Things I follow". Results:
- After opening the page, I see only "Attributes" tab which is empty
- I refreshed the page 11 time, still the same
- On the 12th time I got three tabs: Forum, Member, and Attributes
- The "Forum" tab contains "Lounge" and button "Follow"
- The "Member"tab contains you and button "Follow"
- Refresh again after a short while, back in the beginning with "Attributes" only
- Refresh the page a few times, now the content is correct and the buttons are "Unfollow"
- After waiting a short while, perhaps five seconds, and refresh the page, back in square one, only "Attributes"
If there's any more information you'd like to have, please let me know.

Do you have any add blockers or antivirus?
Is your network reasonably fast or a bit flaky?
Which browser(s)?

No ad blockers, F-Secure as antivirus. Disabling it didn't change the behaviour.
Network is fine when in Europe but I have to admit that CP is significantly slower than majority of European sites I use. For example refreshing a CP page usually takes 3 seconds to complete. The page itself loads quickly but the ad's come clearly slower. Certain pages such as rep history are very often slow or do not load at all.
I tried using a VPN tunnel to Vancouver but that didn't change the behaviour, only made the connection a bit slower (as expected).
Browsers tested with:
- Firefox 58.0.2 (64-bit)
- IE 11.192.16299.0

Ads definitively lag and that's fine since they are served from a separate service and don't impact site content (though don't let that stop you supporting our sponsors ).
Rep history: yes, this is a known issue.
Overall site speed is something we're always working on. One issue is that the more rep you have the more systems are made available to you and the slower the page may become. Some of these like the moderation list are being worked on today.
We're also upgrading servers this week, with another jump in 6 weeks. Hopefully that injects some adrenaline into things.

It is even stranger that so many people cannot find their way to Your Settings[^] , and then scroll down to the checkbox on the right of the page titled "Close my account", and you can close it yourself.

On the home page the recent discussions are shown. Among them are a few spam messages which had been deleted earlier, but still appear in the list. And below each entry:
Quote: null on The Lounge
Ok, null, come down and leave now. Otherwise the CP goon squad will come and show you the door.

On the home page there's the discussion area on the right hand side which shows latest messages from lounge. It seems that the area shows also messages that are moderated on in moderation.
At the moment the list contains four messages, all spam but when navigating to lounge, the messages are not there.

Hi,
While looking at this question[^] in the C++ forum I remember answering similar questions many years ago.
Back on March 15, 2008 I answered a similar question by Jeffery Walton[^]. The question was how to determine if a variable/object address was created or being used in the current thread stack.
I am unable to access any part of that conversation...
Re: Determine Location of a Variable[^]
You are sitting on a literal goldmine of advanced C++ and Windows information. There is some *very* high quality information in many of those old posts. And much of it is still relevant. How difficult can it be to serve up old forum conversations? Also; does this mean in 2024 that everything posted this 2018 year will be missing?
Is there a technical reason why these old forum conversations are unavailable?
Best Wishes,
-David Delaune

I suspect it is because of pagination.
Note that whenever you search for a message and click on the one you want, you're always served a whole page with 25 messages (default setting, I've opted for 50).
But since they are sorted by thread/message, where the messages are also shown as a tree, the database would need to sort all the messages until you reach the page it's on before you can select that page.
You would run out of memory for sorting quite quickly.
There are of course ways to lower the impact. The best one is to use PostGreSql, since it supports composite filtering. Which means you can use a sorted index. And serve any page at the same time
But I suspect CP is using SQL Server, where a clustering key sort could do quite a lot for performance. But not enough I'm afraid.
But until I'm told how the database is actually organised, I can only speculate.
