Of course the problem always is figuring out what can be done in parallel. Since Moore's law is not defunct, only way to get significant performance increase is more processors. The days of waiting a year to get double the performance on a single core or dual core processor are long over.

Listed in the developer release notes for both iOS and macOS, Apple is deprecating support for what are now their legacy graphics and compute APIs: OpenGL, OpenGL ES, and OpenCL. Instead, Apple is strongly encouraging developers to use their proprietary Metal API, which has been available for a few years now. Hmmm. OK maybe don't vote for Apple.

Wonder if ANGLE could be modified to use Metal as the lowest layer.

Anyone remember the mantra "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish"?
What with the embracing then dumping of Open Standards, the attempts to lock-in customers and developers to their platforms, and similar strategies, it looks like Apple are working from Microsoft's old songbook.

So... drop OpenGL and replace it with ClosedGL.

I have been exploring the differences between aggregators and platforms; while aggregators generally harvest already produced content or goods, developers leverage the platform to create something entirely new. OK only one more somewhat-GitHub-related article today, I promise.

Microsoft is buying GitHub for $7.5 billion dollars, and predictably, there's a developer backlash. I didn't read your rational explanation, and I say, sir, I disagree.

. Its backers could, of course, have decided to cut their losses and let the company fold. The effect of this on the open-source world would be devastating
You know, this is raising my consciousness regarding what basket I put my eggs in.

Apple will attempt to frustrate tools used by Facebook to automatically track web users, within the next version of its iOS and Mac operating systems. AKA "Vote for Apple!" (with your dollars)

One thing I will give Apple is they seem to respect user privacy, and don't want anyone (else) harvesting their user's data.

As Facebook sought to become the world’s dominant social media service, it struck agreements allowing phone and other device makers access to vast amounts of its users’ personal information. Goin' down the only road I've ever known.

While the amount of data about me may not have caused harm in my life yet–as far as I know–I don’t want to be the victim of monopolistic internet oligarchs as they continue to cash in on surveillance-based business models. What’s a concerned citizen of the internet to do? Here’s one no-brainer: Stop using Chrome and switch to Firefox. But Chrome has seen me naked and assures me it will love me for me -- for a price.
