If you don't have the CD, how did you get Win2K? I don't believe there's any site where you can download base components of Win2K like IIS5.0, but you may be able to work around the problem with the WebMatrix tool from Microsoft. It comes with a mini-server for developing and testing ASP.Net projects, and is freely available from www.asp.net[^].

I'm trying to get some JavaScript so that a number of pop-ups can figure out the parent that spawned them all, close themselves and re-direct the main parent.
It works as I want (if it's coming from a pop-up then it'll spawn a new window), but, if I click to show the first pop-up, then close the main parent window, and continue through to the page that executes the below code, it throws up an error:
function findWindow()
{
var currentWnd;
currentWnd = self;
while (currentWnd.opener != null && !currentWnd.opener.closed)
{
var oldWnd = currentWnd;
currentWnd = currentWnd.opener;
oldWnd.close();
}
if (!WindowIsPopup(currentWnd))
{
currentWnd.document.location.href='http://www.microsoft.com';
} else {
open('http://www.theregister.co.uk');
currentWnd.close();
}
}
Basically, I want to be able to do a check to find out whether I've reached the main parent window, and if it's not open, spawn a new one etc.
If anyone has any suggestions, or has done this kind of thing before I'd appreciate their thoughts.
Thanks,

mywin = window.open(...)
mywin.focus()

Give the window a name, eg. var myWin = open(pape, 'MyWindow'); . Later, when the main document hasn't changed, you can use the window object to open a new page (if(myWin && !myWin.closed) myWin.localtion.href = 'foo.html'; ); form a different page, using open with the same name (MyWindow) will load the url into the same window.

What other server besidesIIS can run .NET Web applications and services? I am having problems getting approvals to install IIS. The arguments are IIS is not stable and we need someone to maintain the server.

I am planning to create some Visual C# projects using the ASP.NET Web Application template.
We have an Oracle 9i application server. What other configurations are required except the .NET Framework SDK?

I have to say I'm not familiar with Oracle, but I think ADO.NET will connect to it fine using the stuff in the System.Data.SqlClient namespace. Otherwise, you probably do just need the .NET framework and a server box with IIS on it.

Is IIS a must? I am having problem getting an approval on installing IIS. Any other options?

Well, more or less - it's the easiest option, certainly. You can host ASP.NET in Apache on Windows (try some guys called Covalent *). IIS6 on Windows 2003 Server seems pretty good.
* I'm unimpressed with these guys, but only because they're failing to provide a means to remove myself from their mailing lists that works

ASP.NET by Microsoft?

Yes - ASP.NET is a worker process under Windows - as long as the web server handles the requests correctly, it should work fine. Someone wrote an article here on CP about writing a web server with ASP.NET support, but I can't find it.

I checked out the link. It does not seem simpler than having IIS installed in terms of insallation and maintenance.

Didn't say it was But it means there are alternatives if you can't persuade your department to use IIS.

Hello dear CPians.
I am using MSHTML to edit a HTML document. I need to set the editor (when in design mode) to show some kind of borders for all TABLE tags, even for those that have the border=0...
any ideas?
Thank you

There is are border styles you could use to independantly set each edge - try that.

Hi everyone,
I need to finish this project and I need to do it ASAP, so any suggestions are grately appreciated.
I need to create a page using ASP, that gives the user the option of creating tables with different rows and columns. The user is asked to enter the number of ( and %) rows and columns and the page creates them. Once that is done, the user should be able to choose a table and cut it into more rows or tables. User should also be able to insert pictures into any table chosen by user.
Any ideas how this should be programmed.

What I wonder is, what exactly does the user choose here? The entire table, or just some cells from the table? And do you propose to allow the user to create seperate multiple tables or just one single table made up of various inner tables?
