A simple SQL SELECT statement would do.
Dim sql
sql = "SELECT the_file_field FROM your_database WHERE some_condition"
' Create a RecordSet Object
Dim rs
set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet")
' Retrieve the records
rs.Open sql, Connection, adOpenForwardOnly, adLockOptimistic
'write it
Response.write rs("the_file_field")
Note:
you need to open connection, check EOF, close connection.

Hi,
I created a web service and I have a dataset cached in the Application scope. Now, the Application cache is refreshed everyday and the datasets are set to null and the cache is recreated. I look in the task manager and see the process's memory keeps rising. Is my web service not releasing the memory. Please help.
Thanks,

I would start by looking if you are calling Dispose on all IDisposable objects. Datasets, for instance, are IDisposable. If you set all references to null, they'll be collected, but this can take a long time to happen. If you forget a single reference, they won't be collected at all.
Another thing I would do is, if you use COM interop, check if you are calling Marshal.ReleaseCOMObject() on all COM references.
If nothing of this helps, use a memory profiler.

Hi,
My friend tried to indtall Commercec server 2000, in his PC. The PC s/ configuration is.. Win 2000 Server with NTFS partition... IE 6 (It has VS .NET instaled it.. that gave me IE 6).
The problem was, he says, he got a message saying that it needs IE 5 or higher version when the PC already has IE 6 in it.
Any solution.... other than downgrading the IE 6???

Hi,,
Can anyone tell me where to find all the forbidden charecters in an email name ?
I want to make a Reguler Expression (Client side in javascript , Serverside in VBScript) to validate a user input ..
any help ?
|
|
|
|

I don't have a list of all the forbidden characters but here is a regex that I use for email validation: ^[\w-\.]{1,}\@([\da-zA-Z-]{1,}\.){1,}[\da-zA-Z-]{2,3}$

Try this site: http://www.regexlib.com/DisplayPatterns.aspx
I think it has what you need (and more)

I'm redoing a website for a charity, and one of the features I've been asked to add is a calendar of activities - fundraisers, public service activities, meetings, etc. I'm referencing one table, Events, for both the calendar and the current events (limited to the next 30 days). I'd like to display all events in the calendar page, but have the display start at the event nearest to the current date. Viewers would, ideally, be able to scroll backward and forward to view all events in the database, but I'd like the most current to be the initial display. What's the best way to accomplish this? I'm using ASP/ADO (not .Net) with VBS for server scripting, btw.

Since you are redoing your website, I wouldn't code it from the scratch again. I would rather use a CMS, like Xoops (http://www.xoops.org), which is also open-source, although it's done in PHP/MySQL (I don't know if you can run it on your server).
Xoops already offer support for everything you mentioned, plus forums, messaging, news, controlled downloads, user registering, banners, and every cool feature you can imagine. It's extendable, so if it doesn't offer something you need in the future (there are *lots* of modules to install, I find it difficult to imagine), you can implement it.
To install it (I installed on Linux, but you can do it on Windows, too), it's just a matter of copying some files to a Web Server directory and pointing your browser there. A wizard will guide you through the process (about 6 "Next" button clicks).

Sounds great! Unfortunately the hosting service doesn't support MySQL (though they claim to allow PHP). I'll have to check it out for the next site, though - XOOPS looks to be really feature rich. All of the coding is done for this site, except for the feature I mentioned above, and some tweaking I have to do manually because VID doesn't correctly implement CSS yet (pesky little stuff like :hover tags have to be coded manually, and once they are the file can no longer be opened with the CSS Editor). Thanks for the link, though!

VID6 Design Mode is entirely useless for ASP development, but the text editor is a great help. The only drawback is that all debugging messages from ASP refer to line numbers, and it gets tiresome counting down the lines of script source one by one. Is there any way to display line numbers? Nothing in the documentation (such as it is) or in the main menus offers any clue, but it would be a great help to be able to view them.

Um, am I missing something from what you're asking? I don't know how to display line numbers, but I do know that ctrl-G is a really handy way to go to the line of your choice. You shouldn't ever need to be counting through lines of script!
Rich.

I never knew that... Manuals don't exist for most products from MS anymore, and I've never stumbled across any mention of this while wandering around the online "documentation." Thanks!

ok ... going slightly mad here ... anybody got any clues why when i use the following in a style sheet:
a.tb:link {color: red; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}
a.tb:hover {color: white; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}
a.tb:active {color: yellow; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}
a.tb:visited {color: green; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}
my visited links dont change color when the mouse hovers over them?
(the hideous colors are for testing purposes b4 u say anything)

I tried the following and it worked for me
a.tb:link {color: red; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}
a.tb:hover {color: white; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}
a.tb:active {color: yellow; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}
a.tb:visited {color: green; font-size:10px; font-family: "Century Gothic",Verdana,sans-serif; font-weight:bold;}

Order is important, generally put hover at the bottom if you want it to override the visited or active styles. Same goes for if you want visited to override active etc. etc.

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help mw with this.
I created an invoice database with senders, recipients and orders for a gift basket company. Only one thing left to create. The company makes local deliveries and they can not have more then 200 deliveries per day. How can I write the script so it loops through records for a particular date and adds if its less then 200 deliveries, but prompts for another date if that day is not available. In what format would I add the dates into the database as well? Right now I have 3 delivery date options - 1st: oDelDay1, oDelMonth1, oDelYear1
2nd: oDelDay2, oDelMonth2, oDelYear2 and 3rd: oDelDay3, oDelMonth3, oDelYear3. I'm open to any suggestions, please help me.
Thank you in advance,
Eleonora
