The scenario is this - a Web Service that was developed on a XP box has been deployed on IIS 6.0 & Win2k3 m/c. The Win2k3 m/c also has VS.NET 2003 installed on it.
issue #1.
The web service needs to launch a third party process (lets call it abc.exe) to work properly. This step fails on the Win2k3 box. w3wp.exe is running under the default NETWORK SERVICE user privileges. Is there a way to enable/set privileges to the NETWORK SERVICE account so that the ASP.NET worker process has the ability to launch any/specific process? [i tried launching Notepad.exe thru the web service & it seems to launch this successfully.]
issue #2
i expected to debug the web service on the Win2k3 m/c via VS.NET but it fails with the message "... Unable to start debugging on web server. The project not configured to be debugged.". I verified the project settings between my XP & Win2k3 m/c & they are identical. Now i'm beginning to suspect that the Win2k3 default lock-down security is the culprit. Any pointers? I even added the user to the "Debugger Users" group as suggested in the docs to no avail.
Any help is appreciated. TIA.

If you develop a Web Application on ASP.NET, you don't have to access directly to the client file system, unless your client upload files or similar. So it's no problem I think.

Hi,
I planned to buy a laptop... and suddenly I was thinkin about the 'CREATIVE sound Cards'.. will it be posible to put my laptop with creative soundcards??
Please help

One solution is to use an external Creative SoundBlaster. The low end one is pretty good, and has optical in/out (TOSlink) as well as RCA line in/out, and 3.5mm headphone and microphone sockets. The headphone has a separate physical volume control.
The whole thing is in a small box you just connect to a USB port (don't go through a hub unless it's powered), and works a treat.

(No, I don't work for Creative, I just have an external SB and love it!)

I'm hosting a site on IIS, but when I try to access it
from the internet I get a sign-in box, and then Error:
Access is Denied message. If I fill out a valid username
and password I can access the web site. But I want users to
access my site without a password.
I've enabled anonymous access to the website, and I've
given the IUSR_machinename account Read, Read & Execute, and List Folder Contents NTFS permissions to the
physical folder where the site is located.
What else do I have to do to allow anonymous visitors to
my site?
Thanks

It sounds as if you've done everything right, but double check - did you select the box to allow permissions to be inherited from the site folder? You may also have to grant IUSR permissions on individual files, if they were added before you enabled access to the folder; permissions are assigned at the time of file creation, and as far as I know, they are not periodically reviewed. Also, although it shouldn't be necessary, I find that it helps after making such changes to restart IIS.

Is windows authentication still checked? I have found that often times Windows Authentication stays cheched and causes the problem. If your not sure what I am talking about I can take a screenshot for you, just let me know if you need me to.

Hi ,
I am currently prgramming a moderately large solution. Many projects have many dependancies with other projects within the same solution. When I try to compile it, VS.NET gives me an error saying it cannot copy certain (compiled) class libraries into the same directory. It says it is because there are already copies of the dlls in the output directory already.
Right now I have merely told the VS not to copy certain dlls locally. This works fine for debug compilations. But often the release compilations tend to crash half way through because it cannot find the specified versions of specific files (dlls).
Please help me Out.....

Hello,
I have a windows 2000 server in my network and I need databases. Does SQL server 7 run properly on windows 2000, or do I need SQL server 2000?
Thanks.

SQL Server 7 runs fine on Win2K. Be sure to change the default password, though.

Hi all,
I have done one application in C#, when I loaded this app in my system (Windows XP) as a service( auto) one more existing application is not running. Once I stop my app immediately the second program is responding. This is occuring only at the boot of the system. Once this killing of service is done, the problem is not reoccuring. Anybody got some clue why its happening?? I checked the dependencies of this service, there are no dependencies. Still why its happening ?? I thought it's something related to OS, so I am putting this question here.

I can't understand all, maybe if you talk about what your service do, I could know what could be wrong.

Hi,
The things is like this. I developed one software package in C# in .NET. This package runs as a service. When this package is loaded in a machine (WinXP) one more service which is a prerequisite for this service is not running(which is also a service). When I kill my software package, then only the prerequisite is running. I hope it's much clear now. When I checked the CPU and Memory usage of my package I am not finding any abnormality. Do you have any clue to solve this?
Thanks and Regards,

Well, it's hard to know exactly what happens. What I mean before, it's what your service do, for example if it's a internet service, and need to open a port, or it's a manager of something, there must be something that needs and who it could find it fails and sleep, cuz if the service had a error it'll stop. Give me a general review.

HI,
I have a batch file which takes 11 arguments. 11th argument is the file name and if I try writing anything to that file, the system creates the file name from argument 1 and appends 0 to it.
eg.
@echo Something > "C:\Logs\%10"
If I run like this
xxx.bat a b c d e f g h i j k
It creates b0 file. But I want to create k0
Any idea??

Hey everyone,
I had posted a message awhile back asking if anyone knew of a web front end to use for my sendmail (running on solaris 8) server. I was refered to squirrelmail. Which actually looks great. After furthur reading up on it I realized that squirl mail is used with IMAP. I guess here is my question. My mail server is using qpopper (a pop3 software). Will squirlmail beable to still be used on this server? And can I run pop3 and imap on the same accounts? i.e. if I have joe@host.com and he is checking it from say outlook as pop3 can he also check his joe@host.com email through squirrlmail which is IMAP. I hope I havent confused anyone....lol
Thanks to everyone in advance!

I'm stumped.
I have a machine running Windows 2000 Server with SP4. It is a remote
server which I am accessing through Terminal Services as an
Administrator.
There are a ton of entries in the System Log saying "error 7001
Service Control Manager. " Currently the Server, Computer Browser,
IISadmin service ,RPC services are all DISABLED and I can not enable
them! When I try to start the services I get errors like:
"System error 1058 has occured.
The service could not be started because it is disabled or because it
has no devices associated with it"
or
"Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start".
I also can't open properties windows for any services to set them to
start automatically. I can right click on the service names, but when
I click on properties nothing happens.
What can I do to get these services started again?
Thanks in advance,
Andre B
