Then how would I jump to a different page?
Ok if all you want to do is jump to a different page then use response.redirect(), use a normal hyperlink or use javascript.
But I think you mean you want to submit a form, carry over the form data and process it on another page.
Your problem is that you are trying to apply ASP thinking to ASP.NET. The biggest bonus of ASP.NET is that it handles "state" for you. You build a form as per normal, don't worry about the action attribute though, and the submit button is then linked to a procedure (when you build your form just double click the submit button, in the IDE, and you will see). In the procedure you have the code which handles the form data. I just type "strFirstName = frmMain.txtFirstName" in the procedure and it works. ASP.NET handles it all for you.
I recommend you go through The ASP.NET Page Life Cycle and ASP.NET Code Behind Pages, and remember to stop thinking in old ASP terms. ASP.NET is rather different, and RATHER better

I will certainly give this a try and go through the links that you have sent me. Thanks in advance. But I just wanted to also tell you that I am not using VS.NET beta 2. I am using a text editor to write the code.

If you still want to use a form to post data to a separate page. Insteand of using a button that has runat="server" just use a regular submit button. It can be found under the HTML tab in the editor or use insert <INPUT type="submit" value="Submit"> inside the form tags. It will act as the submit button used to. Sorry I caught this post late.

I'm running on NT4.0sp6 and I recently installed MDAC 2.6. Then I opened an old Web project inside Visual Interdev to find that calls to Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") fail with
"ActiveX component can't create object."
What's going on? I even tried passing "ADODB.Connection.2.6" to CreateObject to no avail. I have a stand-alone VB project that uses ADO and that still works.
My guess is that I need to reinstall something. If so, what exactly?
Thanks,
Alvaro

Is there a way of quickly finding out which element on the form has the focus?

I can give you the LONG way of doing it first, then when I figure out the better way then I will tell you that second.
The long way is to place an "onfocus" event on each element on the form. I am sure you have thought of this though, if not just ask again and I will give you the details.
Now I am off to figure out the easy way... I am sure it has something to do with bubbling but the onfocus event does not support it, also it could be done using Behaviours but I do not know how they work, yet... *opens up Homesite and MSDN.Microsoft.com*

I need to be able to replace the text in an HTML table dynamically. How can this be done with JavaScript (no ActiveX) to request a small file from the server to fill in the text area.
Happy programming!!

Use an IFRAME and just change it's source. This will only work in IE. You can however use NS LAYER to buffer the external source contents and copy into a DIV or P tag using innerHTML.
Or use IE's data binding technology using the Tabular Data Control (TDC) Data Source Object, which is really cool, but again only works in IE as far as i know

I'm looking for someone to test the WAP 'new articles' page:
http://www.codeproject.com/info/wapnew.asp
It works fine in an emulator but I've no WAP unit to actually test it with. Comments or suggestions welcome.

Chris, when I get back to SA (3rd Feb) I can check it out on my phone. (not bothered to get a UK sim card or enable international roaming (bloody expensive))
Just remind me.
I agree on the emulator thing though. Some WAP pages we did looked great on emulators but not on the actual phones. Even some emulators made by the phone manufacturer was not perfect. Also the perspective can change things (i.e. from a PC screen to a mobile screen is very different.)

Thanks mate.
BTW - which emulator do you use? I'm using the Nokia but it's a POS. Incredibly clunky Java (when will companies learn Java is not for GUIs!) and no matter what I do it caches content so it requires a restart each time a page is changed.

Well to be frank, and ernest (in New York. umm you have to watch the movie to get that joke. think it is A Long Kiss goodnight, not sure) I have not touched WAP since about 2 months after it came out, i.e. a long time.
From what I remember the emulator I used most was Wapalizer. But as with most it is not always 100% accurate. It is like asking the W3C to validate your HTML. They will say "looks great, good job" but when you view it on IE or Netscape it is a pile of rubbish.

I got the opening page to show on my Siemens C35i, but trying to view any article resulted in "500 Internal server error" and "1001 invalid scheme in URL".
|
|
|
|
|
a 500 error? that's odd.
The page is merely a list of articles - you can't actually peruse them via WAP (imagine trying to view a 50Kb article on a 1"x1" screen at 9600 baud. Yikes!
I just wanted to see if things were working as expected. I'm more than happy to put any information you think worthwhile onto a WAP page.
cheers,

Some things I would like to see, but they are not "must haves", just "if you have time".
New post in forum. Like the indicator on the forum page which shows you the # of old and new posts.
New articles in categories. Once again, just a number, or if you have more time then the first few words of each new articles title.
A simple indicator saying someone has replied to one of your posts.
Frankly there is not much useful WAP stuff out there, not because WAP is at fault but IMHO because the phone screens are so bloody small and terrible to use.

The problem with this is how do you define 'new'? The WAP specs dicate cookies - but cookies aren't always implemented, so it's back to the old 'lowest common denominator'
And where's my code snippet scripts? Huh? Huh?!
(feeling a little under pressure after asking for new features, so I'm turning defence into attack and confusing the issue in order to make a quick exit stage left.)

Without a cookie the only way would be to add extra data for each member which says whether they have viewed an item or not. If viewed, not new, if not viewed, new.
However I can see your blood draining from your face as you think of your poor servers and the strain this puts on it.
The only other way then would be to have a cut-off date. Lets say two days. Anything older than two days is not new. Everything else is new.
But that severely cuts down on the usefulness of the ideas.
So get new servers? Just win the lottery! It will make you happy
Chris Maunder wrote:

it is amazing how things which are not "official" or do not have strict deadlines just go on and on and on and on and never get finished. Well as soon as I am back from London I am going ahead with it, and I know Jason is still keen, he is just a bit busy.
Would you prefer money or the scripts?
Chris Maunder wrote:

Ok, as for the WAP features they were off the top of my head and I am pretty sure I actually would not use them much. WAP connections are expensive in SA (about 4 times more than a normal mobile voice phone call.) So don't even think of stressing over that.

Now that is an understatement! FiretrUCKING swamped is more like it, if I was just busy I would be relaxed by comparison.
I have been feeling a bit guilty about my lack of activity on the snippet project. Fortunately Chris is all the way over in Canberra and I am relatively sure he can not hit me with a beer from there.
Seriously though, Paul is right I am still willing and interested. As soon as Paul gets back home we will touch base and see if we can get things rolling. (one more project for the to-do list *groan* )
At least I am managing to skim the forums a bit again. I haven't been able to spare the time to do more than glance at the Lounge a few times in the last month.

Hi Chandan.
Very quick reply here as I am just heading out the office.
We had this problem and found we had to store the refferer in a session variable (uniquely id it with the session id) on the page which pop's up the pop up window.

You cannot, as far as I know.
Do you have any other identifying details you can use to id the session variable? e.g. a user name?
If so then save the session variable to a database that server B can access. Along with that save put the user name. Don't use the session id as server B won't be able to use it properly.
If you don't have any other unique id then you could have a problem. I will give it a think over.

hi paul,
Thanx for ur reply...paul.I have tried to explain u the exact functionality, what i require and the problems i am facing.
Below is the link, i have given to the client, to access our server.
"Link to demo
"
Problem i am facing:
1.This link can be seen by everone who 'viewsource' the cleint page.Just the copy this link and pasting on a browser anyone can get access to my server, since i am checking in the databse for the querystring value.I wanna restrict unregistered users.
2.I can use servervariables("HTTP_REFERER"), it works fine if client wishes to open our pages in a window or frames, but if client wanna open in a popup window, i will not able to get the referer for validation.
3.I cannot give the client any more code for inserting into his page, since they are very arrogant and will not agree, hence rule out the idea of setting cookies or any other javascript functions. What ever we have to do is with our pages only.
This link has been given to 4 clients and two of them are opening in popups and other two in frames. From clients point of view functionality is fine but we are worried since the link is not secured.
Plz, paul give me some solution so that i can handle this. There is very less time and pressure is on.Hope u can understand. Thanks in advance!!Eagerly waiting for ur reply.

chandan

How can I get IE's vertical scrollbar position?
I user WM_HTML_GETOBJECT on IE's window to obtain IHTMLDocument2, then I do get_body to get IHTMLElement, following with QueryInterface for IHTMLElement2. Everything finish successfully, but every call to get_scrollTop returns a zero.
