When the system boots, and loads XP, we see the XP logo
picture boot screen , following which, we see the Desktop.
How to replace that Picture with my liking file. It is
possible in Windows 98, but I dont remember that
procedure now. Is the same possible in XP , if Yes ,how?
Thanks in advance,

In windows 98, if you want to change the logo you have to edit the file logo.sys or logos.sys. But in windows xp, I not sure too how to the file that affect the picture of the windows xp that start up. But try to check this website[^]. It might offer some feature that you need to customize your windows xp. Let me know if it is match what you need or not.

there's a little app called BootXP (www.bootxp.net) which will do that for you, or there are plenty of places on the internet where you can find instructions on how to change the boot screen. the easiest way is to edit your boot.ini though. the splash screen itself is contained in C:\{WinDir}\{SysDir}\NTOSKRNL.EXE. but, before you go scratching around in these files, go read up on this stuff on the internet...

Changing or tampering NTOSKRNL.EXE to modify the bootup screen may not really be a good idea. I did end up locked off from my Win XP! So watch out. WinXP deals strictly with changed system files and will display some warnings every time this file is changed. I had this experience when I installed MacOS transformation pack. But beware that such custom packs may change quite a lot of system files and hence all your service pack updates might be rendered useless. So stick around with good commercial products (Designed for..... logo).

Hello, Thanks for the response.
Well the problem is, Actually I am running a web server on windows 2000 professional, using IIS 5.0, Currently I am having a web site on this server and accessing it by the name of abc.com (done it by making an entry in host file "123.123.0.1 abc.com"). There is a subfolder in my site "bla" currently I am accessing it as http://abc.com/bla. But I want to access it in this way. http://bla.abc.com.
Please give me some hints that how could i make
http://abc.com/bla to http://bla.abc.com
on window 2000 professional edition.

Note: Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP will only allow you to host a single web-site. You will a second web-site to do what you want, which means you will have to use Windows Server 2000 or 2003.
- Add a host file entry "123.123.0.1 bla.abc.com"; In DNS, this would be a new CNAME record for the domain abc.com;
- Add a new web-site in IIS, and point it to the "bla" directory;
- In the properties of the new site, click the "Advanced" button in the "Web Site Identification" section;
- Highlight the entry in the top list, and click "Edit";
- In the "Host Header Name" box, enter "bla.abc.com";
- Click "OK" three times;
- Start the new web-site;

Each site hosted on IIS must have its own name, IP address, and port assigned - the combination must be unique, especially the address and port. It's much easier to simply set up a single domain and use virtual directories for separate sites, since most of us don't have multiple IP addresses assigned. A bit more detail about the type of problem you're experiencing would be helpful.

Hello all,
please help me
how to remove IE from Windows Server 2003
thanks in advance
|
|
|
|
|
I never use windows server 2003, but i think it is the same as windows xp. Try go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Program -> Add/Remove Windows Component . Then you will see Internet Explorer checkbox option. Then clear it and click on the Next button. IE will remove from your system.

Well lets see I'm running 2000 so 2k3 should
do almost the same.
The way to do it is just open my computer
go to control panle then add\remove programs
in there should be IE #.
In XP its a little diffrent not much.
|
|
|
|
|
You should tried to install windows 2k3
and go to control panel to verify that
there has IE or not

install windows first, on to either hard drive. then install linux. linux will see the windows installation, and will give you a nice menu to let you boot into either windows or linux when you start your computer. make sure linux doesn't try to install over your windows, but rather on the other hard drive.
