There seems to be something drastically wrong with the topic colouring.. it appears to be doing something like this:
if( message.votes > 0 )
if( message.averagevote == 5 )
message.colour = red
else
message.colour = grey
endif
endif
whereas I'd expect something like
if( message.votes > 0 )
if( message.averagevote > 3.5 )
message.colour = red
else if( message.averagevote < 1.5 )
message.colour = grey
else
message.colour = black
endif
endif
or something to that effect

Ahh, I see - I hadn't noticed that I'd managed to accidentially change the noise level (so everything below 4.5 was becoming greyed)

In one of my other messages, I asked if it was possible to get an e-mail everytime somebody replies to any message that was a reply to the original message, and I was told that it would be too much overhead. Didn't actually reread the reply, but the jist of it was no.  .
How about, when a person clicks on their messages link to see what messages they've submitted, instead of just seeing a new icon for that message (which I don't understand why you should ever see it, since every new message entered appears open and read), they only see the new icon for any new message reply within that thread?
This is the equivalent to the other, except it should cut down the overhead.
Also, my messages submitted link almost always takes forever to come up, and a lot of times times out on the first couple of tries, even when the rest of Code Project comes up normally (like the forums and articles). Is that on a separate server or something?

With all the talent at Code Project (especially those actually at Code Project (who are also over-worked )), how come we don't have open-source projects that are continuously being built upon and improved? A lot of people provide feedback to authors on certain applications that they created, but it would be nice if Code Project had a SourceForge type place where everyone can download and support that official Code Project application. I know we're not trying to create competition between authors here, but we can ask them if we can take something of theirs and combine it all into another similar application. We can actually have free, commercial-quality software that will replace plenty of other $oftware$. Bwahahaha.
Or if that's not necessary because it's being supported somewhere else already, have a link to where that Open Source project is located (SourceForge, et al).

Several projects have been started and they all failed to take off. Some moved away from CodeProject to have a life of their own.
Do a search for Code Project Projects in the Forums and Articles and you might find some links and discussion.

It was already tried - they were called CP2, CodeProject Code Projects - but the CP forum software wasn't up to the task of being a project management tool. As the earlier post said, a few survived and were moved to existing OSS sites or to their own site. I don't know the names off the top of my head, but the CP2 articles might still be around.

Interesting, thanks. That seems like a terrible shame because a lot of people here have excellent ideas that could be put to great use. Most CPians have full time jobs and can only do so much on their own, which is why I thought it best to divide and conquer. Oh well.

It looks to me, on the client end, like a project management and presentation section could be programmed almost independent of the rest of codeproject. Just an interface to the users’ database and some well placed links should do it. There would need to be some new tables set up in a database for groups, resources, permissions, and so on. It would need to be setup such that a resource (like: the Project Description) can only be edited by users in a specific group. For anyone who has used anything Directory Services, this structure should sound familiar; it’s just in a much lighter implementation.
So, if I am correct in my initial assumptions, why not get together a group, and make the first project writing a good (stress on good) project management and presentation suit for this site. I for one would love to see this if it is possible.

Instead of fancy prices, you could throw in some code project rarities (like the reset button of web server 4).

Maybe it's just me, with my slow dial-up connection and all, but I do feel that the C# page could be made a little smaller, and thus faster to access. Maybe you could place each sub-section on its own page, rather than the whole bunch on one page
I as a user would not have to click any more than I do now, but the amount I have to download from the server on each access would be smaller.
