Not sure if it actually saves time and space, but do we really need to see our own names after each message thread in the Messages Submitted page? Do users change their names that often?

How much would it cost you guys, to create a different department for each of those two dev env's? I mean, they are not quite the same, neither are they alike... so what's the point on keeping them together?
A simple lightning-fast solution would be that on the 'new thread' page, there could be a couple of 'options' for each of 'previous to .Net' and '.Net itself', maybe defaulted to '.Net itself', and users could specify it on the 'thread's title'... it'd make the life of those of us who are here just to help much much easier...

We're actually trying to avoid VB6 content, and have the VB/VB.NET combination in the forums mainly to cater to those having issues moving from VB6 to VB.NET.
If it turns out there's a pressing need for VB6 support forums and even VB6 article sections then we'll do it, but we'd prefer to leave VB6 to the many sites who have covered this topic sufficiently and move forward with VB.NET

Please _think_ about the following:
How many ad impressions would you loose when you disable ad cycling?
Occasional timeouts when following a link are bearable, but getting thrown out IN THE MIDDLE OF NOTHING is becoming so annoying I consider to go cold turkey on CP*. It makes me angry. I am shouting at the site, I am shouting at you. I am thinking about enabling the ad filter. It is that ugly.
I understand that you have no immediate solution. But we DO need fixes and workarounds for the time being. Currently, when I'm thrown out, I can't hit refresh, I can't hit "back". Even clicking "Stop" just after the page did load correctly does not help.
A concerned reader.

It seems more prominent through a "long" wire (slower connection, additional proxy).
Update: ran without problems through the entire evening, from my home connection. That's weird.

Hey Peter,
I'm spending the morning trying to coax the system into spitting out an error from the ad page. If it happens, and it hijacks the entire page, the ad cycling is gone until I can find a solution.
This frustrates me as much as everyone else.

I've been running trouble free throughout the entire day. Yet, yesterday was hell, and I'm afraid it will reoccur.
When it happens again, is there any information that might help you?
I know quite well how frustrating it is if you can't reproduce a problem. I'm still optimistic that it's simple once you get the right piece of information.

This is just a minor suggestion, but would it be possible to fix the ad server so it does not continually throw out those annoying 500 errors.

I've got error checking all over the place, custom error pages, exception handling, even on error resume next's splattered liberally.
Let me know if the problem persists. It's one of those cases where what you would expect to be happening isn't what's actually happening. It's frustrating for everyone.

Huh? It's been going on sporadically for many weeks, perhaps months - I haven't been keeping track. I have been trying to correlate it to something but haven't had much success. It happens with equal frequency no matter what conditions I can detect prevail. I thought at first it was a load problem, but it doesn't matter whether there are 1600 or 6000 users connected. I check to see if my connection is poor, but other very busy sites respond without error. I haven't yet tried using tracert again, as we all did before when the NSP was having routing problems, but I will and if there's a pattern I'll pass it on. I made some changes yesterday so if the ads die they (hopefully) won't take out the page they are in. If this change doesn't help then it's back to the drawing board

Whatever you did seems to have helped eliminate the errors from showing up on this end. Makes browsing CP a much better experience than it has been the last while.

Chris, I do not know if this will help you any, but I just had a lounge page come up where the left side banner ad was missing. In it's place was IE's default "Cannot find server or DNS error" page.

There seems to be something drastically wrong with the topic colouring.. it appears to be doing something like this:
if( message.votes > 0 )
if( message.averagevote == 5 )
message.colour = red
else
message.colour = grey
endif
endif
whereas I'd expect something like
if( message.votes > 0 )
if( message.averagevote > 3.5 )
message.colour = red
else if( message.averagevote < 1.5 )
message.colour = grey
else
message.colour = black
endif
endif
or something to that effect
