search for attributes in a DICOM file

hi,
im trying to write a program which would search a .dcm file for the attributes given by the user.
for eg:
the user can give patient name=john AND sex=M(options provided by the UI)
and the .dcm file which would satisfy the above 2 attributes or more conditions given by the user should be retuned.
