how to sort excel collumn that contain number and number with text

I have an excel sheet that contains a column in which the data is as below, and the cell format is general:

1
2
12
1\a
1\b
3
3\a
4
5
6
6\a
7
8
9
10

If I sort this I get the result as:

1
2
12
1\a
1\b
10
3
3\a
4
5
6
6\a
7
8
9

However, I want the result as:

1
1\a
1\b
2
3
3\a
4
5
6
6\a
7
8
9
10
12

If any one has any ideas, please help me. :)
