Don't be blabbing this, but I've heard that Chris is developing a line of CP accessories. The first of these is a Bob mouse, constructed of a new plastic that does not attract fuzz. Being the most frequently used function, Bob's large eye will be a left button, and the smaller a right button. Bob's navel will serve a dual purpose, one as an optical scroll wheel activated by the ridges of fingerprints, the other as a repository for what tiny bit of fuzz the device will inevitably collect. Rumor has it that we can expect to see them in stores in time for Christmas.

Very pleased at the results so far.  After using the MS opticals for years, I hate going back, not just because the optical has nicer motion, but because the Intellimouse Explorer is big and fits my hand perfectly.
That makes me think - don't you feel dumb when you're using some other type of mouse and you slap your thumb against the side, trying to click the non-existant side buttons?

Worth mentioning are the additional buttons as well. Since I have the IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 at work, I really miss the back button at home

I strongly agree! I think the Intellimouse Explorer is GREAT; other mice feel childish and under-endowed when you're used to the real thing.

I am addicted to the buttons on the side as well.
I also have the intellisense keyboard with the shortcut buttons on the top of the keyboard which I really enjoy to control my CD player, popup the calculator and other neat little fun things.

Not sure, but I think my "mouse" might be the Klingon version of Paul's Borg mouse!
The MS Optical Trackball does need a little de-fuzzing every now and then.
But it makes up for it when playing Win XP Plus 3D PinBall.
WOOHOO. I think it must be the only mouse that you can really spin.

So I have one of those nifty Microsoft Borg mice things (the one with the red diode underneath and gray on top, the one that only fits big hands.)
Sure, I no longer need to clean the roller ball, but now I have to clean the daft little rubber pads on the bottom every week. They get gummed up quicker than the mouse ball used to. There are four of them, one in each corner.
What are they for? Can I rip them off and still use the damned thing?
Do other optical mice have this problem?

My logitek chordless optical doesn't, but the M$ one I bought for work does. I clean it every month or so - who cares if it's dirty ? It doesn't stop the mouse from working.

I've got the MS Intellimouse with Intellieye, and it has the same problem. I just give the mouse a good push along a clean sheet of paper and all the gunk comes off.

I have the reverse problem, the pads are leaving "gunk" on my desk surface!

I have the Borg Mouse too... actually, I have two - one at work, one at home.
The one at work gums up my desk - I have to get a warm cloth to wash the desk clean.
The one at home gums up the pads... and I think I'm soon going to just rip the suckers off - I can't see a good reason to leave them there if they are going to constantly get all gummed up! Does anyone recommend not removing them for any reason?

Maybe I don't leave it as long as you, but yeah I clean mine when it starts causing me problems.
What I can't understand, is "why don't mice come with cleaning sticks or something ?"
I keep a pair of tweezers handy to clean it anyhow.

I'm partial to a good pencil eraser for cleaning the rollers. But i haven't found anything i really like for the ball yet; rubbing alcohol works ok, but i'm not sure what it'll do to the rubber
